Home league match played on 14 March 2009.
Kicked off at 11:00 AM

The Cardinal launched an attack straight from the start, kicking the ball up-field, to test the Knights defence of Blackbourn, Choularton and Komboni, who dealt with the situation well.  The Knights then fought their way forward, and a throw-in taken by Komboni allowed Holloway the first shooting opportunity, but his effort went wide.  The Cardinals then thumped the ball forward again, for their lone striker to chase, a few more Cardinal players run forward in support but Blackbourn and Choularton, both kept their cool to clear this danger away.  This was the last action by Choularton, as he had to retire due to illness.  The Cardinals again launched a long high ball forward, catching the Knights off-guard; Tadd, the Knights keeper was a little slow to react, due to having tonsillitis, and somehow the ball managed to find a way through, until it came to rest in the back of the net, 1-0 Cardinals.  This seemed to spur on the Knights and soon they were deep in the Cardinals half of the pitch; Holloway was brought down and a free-kick was awarded; Holloway placed the ball and went for goal, narrowly missing.  Doel and Holloway then started combining; passing the ball and making their way towards the Cardinals goal; but the Cardinals were defending in numbers, bringing everybody back to maintain their lead.  On one such attack by the Knights, Holloway, Doel and Powell worked together, pushing forward until Powell turned towards goal, but his effort went wide.  As the Knights fought forward again, Holloway was again fouled, given the Knights a free-kick in a dangerous area; Holloway floated the ball into the danger zone and Doel connected but his shot was cleared by the Cardinals defence.  Within a few minutes the Knights forced the play deep inside the Cardinals half, Courtnage laid the ball to Holloway who, with force, thundered the ball goal-ward, but a Cardinals defenders bravely step in its path, blocking the goal-bound effort; in the dying seconds Komboni took a throw-in, allowing Powell the opportunity to shot, but his effort went just wide.

As the 2nd half started, the Knights ventured forward again, with Courtnage and Doel combining; Doel unleashed a long shot but the Cardinals keeper meet the challenge and saved well.  Hooper then got stuck in, helping the ball onto Doel, who turned a defender before firing in a shot; but this time the post came to the Cardinals rescue.  The Knights kept the pressure up, forcing the Cardinals onto the back foot, and an attack by Hooper was only half cleared by the Cardinals, Holloway controlled the ball and fired it into the net, but this was disallowed as he used his arm to bring the ball under control.  The Cardinals then forced the Knights back, with a few shots high and over the bar, reminding the Knights that they still posed a threat; during one of these attacks, the Knights conceded a corner.  Taken quickly, the ball was floated into the Knights penalty area; Hooper dived in bravely, trying to head the ball clear, but his header just clipped the inside of the post and the ball ended up in the net, 2-0 Cardinals.  With time running out, the Knights again took the play into the Cardinals half, where mass confusion ensued, but somehow the Cardinals kept the ball away from the net.  With only seconds remaining the Knights launched another attack, and from a corner Komboni headed the ball just over the bar, just as the final whistle blew.  The Manager could not decide who should be awarded man of the match, so the decision was left to the players, and without hesitation, they all nominated Doel for the award, due to his commitment throughout the entire match.
