As the whistle blew, Doel and Courtnage quickly passed the ball to Komboni, who tried his luck from the half-way line; however, the Lions keeper was alert and dealt with the shot with ease. The Lions then launched an attack from the goal-kick, Greenaway and Blackbourn combined to deny them an opportunity to shoot, at the expense of a corner. As the ball came over Komboni rose above everyone to head the ball clear but this was intercepted by a Lion attacker who fired a shot towards the Knights goal. Tadd, the Knights keeper dived to his right and held onto the ball, bringing the Lions attack to a quick end. Now it was the Knights’ turn to start attacking the Lions goal, and from a long throw-in taken by Komboni, Holloway seized the ball, and took the opportunity to turn a defender before trying his luck; unfortunately his effort went just high and wide of the goal. Another throw-in, taken by Komboni, released Doel, who flicked the ball into the path of a fast moving Courtnage, but Courtnage shot only found the side netting. The Lions responded by sending the ball down the right wing, a well placed cross gave the Lions a golden opportunity to score but again Blackbourn was there to clear the ball safely away. His clearance found Greenaway who quickly sent Courtnage on his way towards the Lions goal; Courtnage fired in a powerful shot which the Lions keeper stopped but was unable to hold onto, the first player to react was Doel, but his shot went just wide of the mark. The Lions never stopped coming forward themselves, and soon a long shot from a Lions attacker was heading towards the Knights goal, but the defence watched as the ball went high over the bar. From the goal-kick Komboni sent Doel on a forward run, and after rounding a Lions player Doel passed the ball to Courtnage, Courtnage powered his way forward and cleverly flicked the ball past the Lions keeper, but unfortunately it also went past the post. The Lions were quick to attack and by using the right wing managed to get a player into a shooting position; without hesitation this Lions striker let loose a powerful shot which ending up in the roof of the Knights goal, 1-0 to the Lions. From the re-start Borachan sent Courtnage on his way, who in turn released the ball to Holloway, and by using good individual skills Holloway skipped past a couple of players as he bore down on the Lions goal, before scoring the equaliser for the Knights. As the half was drawing to a close, Doel cut through the Lions mid-field passing to Holloway, Holloway flew down the left wing looking up to see who was available; he spotted Borachan and so crossed the ball towards him. Borachan reacted quickly and confidently, slotting home the Knights 2nd goal of the match.
Hooper was brought on for the 2nd half, and right from the start, committed himself to attacking the ball over and over again, given him the 1st opportunity to shoot in this half; but the Lions keeper pushed the ball into touch, denying Hooper a goal. As the corner was taken by Holloway, Blackbourn made his way to the far post; he looked up and saw the ball coming. He stretched for the ball and headed it towards the Lions goal; it looked like the ball hit Hooper before ended up in the back of the net but Blackbourn was awarded the goal because of his excellent header, 3-1 Knights. This seemed to inspire the Knights and attacks from Doel, Holloway and Hooper were either saved or wide of the Lions goal. In a later attack Holloway tore down the left wing crossing the ball into the danger area, in an attempt to clear the ball a Lions defender nearly put the ball into his own net, conceding another corner for the Knights. Holloway fired in the corner; causing confusion in the Lions penalty area, Komboni, on a rare jaunt forward collected the ball and fired in a powerful shot, scoring the Knights 4th goal of the game. During another attack Komboni challenged for the ball in the middle of the park and won not only that, he skipped passed a couple of players even though he took a knock. Limping a little Komboni still managed to cross the ball into the danger area where Hooper collected and shot at goal, bringing off another save by the Lions keeper. From another attack Hooper rounded a Lions player and took aim but as he let fly the Lions defender raised an arm, stopping the play as the Knights were awarded a free-kick for handball, just outside the Lions area. Hooper was told to take, and he went directly for goal; Hooper managed to lift the ball over the wall and the ball was making its way into the net but the Lions keeper again pulled off a great save, tipping the ball onto the bar before it went behind for a corner. In yet another attack by the Knights, Doel raced towards the Lions goal bringing out another save by the Lions Keeper. However, the keeper couldn’t hold onto the ball and Doel reacted 1st, looking up and passing to Courtnage; Courtnage stretched for the ball but couldn’t quite reach so his effort went wide. The Lions weren’t holding back, and at every opportunity pushed forward to attack the Knights goal, but Blackbourn, Greenaway and Komboni held firm, forcing them back each time. On a quick break by the Knights Komboni released Hooper who rounded a Lions defender and aimed for the top corner of the net; the keeper again put pay to Hooper scoring, tipping his shot over the bar. As the corner came over Doel jumped and tried to head the Knights into a 4 goal lead, but he was just unable to reach the ball and it flicked harmlessly past the post. With the referee checking his watch the Lions launched a final attack, muscling their way into a dangerous area; without pausing, the Lions strikers were looking to score, and they didn’t disappoint, scoring their 2nd goal of the match just as the final whistle blew. The final score of 4-2 was a well deserved win for the Knights but it left the manager with a really hard decision to make, who would be man of the match; because every one of the Knights players were eligible for the award. In the end the decision was made and Doel was awarded man of the match, this was because of his dedication in mid-field and for the support he gave to the forwards, throughout the entire game.
