As the match started, the Vikings attacked first, forcing their way forward but Tadd, the Knights keeper was alert and collected the ball safely, putting pay to this early attack. The Knights then mounted their first attack, with Holland, Doel, Holloway and Sellitto leading the charge; Sellitto crossed the ball into the Vikings danger zone and a mass scramble took place, Holloway tried his luck but he sent the ball over the bar. Within minutes of this attack, the Knights ventured forward again, Gardener slipped the ball to Holloway, who sliced the Vikings defence apart with a prefect ball to Doel, sending him on-route towards goal. Doel rounded the Vikings keeper, and with a cool head, slotting home the opening goal for the Knights. This didn’t stop the Vikings from coming forward, and soon they were rewarded with a corner; this was well taken but the final header went wide. From defence Courtnage and Garland combined to release Holloway and Gardener, who feed Sellitto down the left wing; Sellitto fired in a good cross but Hooper was just unable to make contact, a near miss for the Vikings. Another attack by the Knights saw Choularton release Doel and Holland, who between them made good headway towards the Vikings goal; Holland fired in a shot but this was well saved by the Vikings keeper. The Vikings then came forward and caused a goal mouth scramble for the Knights, but Garland and Blackbourn were there to clear the danger away for a corner. This corner was well taken but the final effort went wide of the post, easing the pressure on the Knights. As the game progressed, Powell sent Doel and Holloway forward; Doel slipped the ball to Holloway who struck for goal, only to see his effort bounce off the bar. Another corner for the Vikings saw a powerful shot saved by Tadd, for another corner; the Vikings crammed the Knights penalty area looking for the equaliser, and as the corner was driven in low and hard, a Vikings attacker flicked the ball into the back of the net, giving the Knights defence no change, 1-1 half-time.
The Knights attacked straight from the re-start, and from a throw-in taken by Holland, Gardener released Doel, he rounded a defender before sending Holloway goal-ward; bringing the ball under control Holloway slipped the ball into the corner of the net, giving the Knights a 2-1 lead. Again the Knights rushed forward, Owen to Powell to Holloway, but his effort was well saved but Vikings defence were unable to clear and Sellitto pounced, scoring the Knights 3rd goal of the match. The Vikings still pressed forward, and a high looping ball entered the Knights area, Both Tadd, the Knights keeper and a Vikings attacker went for the ball, it appear that Tadd had both hands on the ball before he and the attacker clashed; the ball ended up in the net, and the goal was given, 3-2 Knights. This seemed to inspire the Knights into attacking again; Choularton sent Holland towards the Vikings goal, a shot come cross from Holland allowed a Viking defender to head the ball but unfortunately this went straight into his own goal, 4-2 Knights. The Vikings didn’t allow this to effect their game, and soon mounted yet another attack, forcing the Knights onto the back foot, and a well worked move down the wing allow the Vikings to send over a great cross and a lone attacker was able to slip the ball into the net, 4-3 Knights. Soon the Vikings were attacking again; from a well taken corner, the ball was drifting into the net when Tadd jumped high and punched the ball away, stopping what was a certain goal. As the Vikings kept forcing the play Courtnage cleared the ball up-field for Doel and Holloway to chase; Holloway then cut the Vikings defence apart with a killer pass to Sellitto, but his final effort was too high. With less than a minute to play, the Vikings attacked, making the Knights defence of Blackbourn, Courtnage and Garland fight for every ball, which they did, keeping the Vikings at bay until the final whistle. This exciting match was brought to an end, with the Knights winning a close fought match; the manager had a hard decision to make, as the entire team all played well, but a man of the match had to be chosen. Tadd was picked because of the way he performed, stopping a Vikings equaliser in the last minute of the match.
