Away league match played on 05 December 2009.
Kicked off at 11:00 AM

The Knights started the match strongly with a quick attack; a throw-in taken by Komboni saw Owen strike at goal, but his effort went wide.  The Knights then came again with Holloway and Holland combining before releasing Doel goal-ward, but the Saints defence held firm and denied the opening goal.  It was then the turn of the Saints to launch an attack, a throw-in found a Saints striker in the open, he fired in a shot but was wide of the mark.  From the resulting goal-kick, the Saints intercepted and a striker took aim and fired; Tadd, the Knights keeper was quick to react and safely gathered the ball.  The Knights then fought forward, a ball from defence by Courtnage found Owen, he and Holland moved forward, releasing Hooper and Sellitto; Sellitto let fly which brought out a great save by the Saints keeper.  A few minutes later Holloway was sent down the wing by Garland, Holloway skipped passed a defender before given the ball to Holland, who whipped in a cross, but this was a little too strong for Doel to collect.  The Saints were defending well and a high ball forward by them brought Blackbourn and Courtnage into play, Courtnage slipped the ball to Powell, who, by using good skill released Holloway, but his final effort on goal was well blocked.  Again the Knights attacked and shots by Doel, Owen, Holland and Holloway were all saved by the Saints keeper, who was on top of his game today.  The Knights kept coming forward, applying the pressure on the Saints defence, Hooper and Sellitto combined allowing Holland a shot on goal, but again the Saints keeper rose to the challenge, putting pay to this goal scoring opportunity.  The Saints then built an attack from the back, passing the ball well to put pressure on the Knights, but Garland, Owen and Komboni stood in the way, bringing this promising attack to an end.  As the Saints attacked again, Blackbourn intercepted and sent Holloway down field, but a Saints defender saw the danger and quickly came across to clear the ball away.  With only a few minutes remaining in the half, the Knights attacked again, Komboni sent Holland and Powell forward, Sellitto pulled out wide, taken a defender with him, allowing Owen a free run towards goal, but a late tackle brought him down, free-kick Knights.  As the free-kick was taken by Holloway, the Saints keeper again was aware of the situation and collected the ball safely.

2nd half began with the Knights forcing the play into the Saints half of the pitch; Doel played the ball through to Holloway, but his shot was just wide.  As another Knights attack was broken down by the solid Saints defence, a quick effort by Powell saw the ball go for a corner.  Holland sent the ball into the penalty area, and due to the mass of players a Saints defender handled the ball – penalty Knights.  Holland took and went for power, but unfortunately for him and the Knights, he struck the ball at the keeper, who did well to hold onto the ball, denying the Knights the opening goal.  From this the Saints attacked quickly, and Tadd had to save a goal-bound shot.  The Knights then mounted an all-out attack, where Sellitto, Doel, Hooper and Powell all had shots saved by the Saints keeper.  Holloway even powered the ball into the heart of the Saints goal only to see the keeper collect the ball at the second attempt.  As the Knights were attacking more and more, a few gaps appeared in the Knights defence, the Saints took advantage of this; a quick attack brought Rust into play, he quickly sprinted forward to clear the danger away.  The match started to become an end to end battle, with both teams trying the score the opening goal, the Saints fired in attempt after attempt, but the Knights defence stood firm; with approximately 5 minutes remaining the Knights launched an attack.  Holland release Powell and Owen towards goal; the ball was laid back for Garland, who sent the ball down the wing to Holloway.  Holloway rounded a defender and fired the ball high towards the Saints goal; the Saints keeper jumped but the ball was just too high, and the ball struck the back of the net giving the Knights a hard fought goal, the winning goal as it turned out.  The match was brought to an end, and the Knights management team needed to decide who should be awarded man of the match – and Holland was that person; he played excellent football throughout the match, showing 100% determination in all areas of the field – a worthy winner.
