Once again we were scraping the barrel with players.
After chatting to Emma at lunchtime, telling her we have 7 players, do a bit of extra grub, we were let down by Lee, James, Moodey and Chris...
The outcome of the conversation was that Emma has secured the funding of a new board, scoreboard and oche and changing the current layout of the 'Darts Arena'. Cheers Em!
Mark didn't answer when I called him and I was starting to think we would have to ask the dude with the 2 broken arms to play (seeing as he beat Martin at pool, maybe that wasn't a bad idea).
Mark turned up, bought a round (good lad) and was raring to go.
So, after Martin and Joff kindly agreed to play as well we eventually scraped 6 players together for what should have been winnable fixture, we were ready.
Thanks again to Emma who kindly scored the first game.
Longy / Gaz / Joe - Gazza banged in a 140, Longy chipped in with 7 / 41 / 26 / 85 and Joe, with 96 left, smashed in a Treble 20 with his first dart and tidied up to leave 6. After 12 darts at double 3 we lost a leg that should have seen us go in front. 1-0 down
Mark / Joe - Nothing eventful happened here but the guys worked really well together. Joe hitting some deent scores and Mark straight into the swing of it. 2-0 down
Mark / Martin / Joff - 2 debutants on show and Joff's warm up darts made him look like a fucking pro! Mark scoring very well and the others backing him up saw us with an opportunity to win the leg but no joy. Unlucky boys!! 3-0 down
Martin - Straight back on, even though he was dying to finish his Dominoes pizza. Martin worked the board again (and the cabinet/wall/floor). Bit of practice and you will be fine son. 4-0 down
Now with the game almost out of sight, the self proclaimed 'Dream Team' were called up:
Longy / Gazza - Gazza, on form looking at his trebles game, started with 85 / 85 / 100 / 100, Longy bent the wire on double 5 outshot. But upsteps the man of the moment to take double 5, get in there Gazza! 4-1 down
Mark - Solid scoring all the way through. Lost the first leg, not sure how. But pulled it back in the second with a 20 outshot (10 & double 5). Solid in the decisive leg to win his first singles of the season with a 32 checkout. 4-2 down
Gaz – Steams into the 1st leg and won it with a 20 darter, great stuff mate. Steve came back with a 17 darter. But the Gaz man holds firm in the deciding leg to take the victory and put us in the ascendency. 4-3 down
Now we are in control, Longy should have called himself to try and draw us level but went with the new signing Joe...
Joe – Scored pretty well against their best player. Unlucky though as he got Malc rattled in both legs, really put him off his stride. 2-0 loss. 5-3 down
Now with the match lost, the pressure was off.
Longy – Facing his old school mate, Si (the guy with possibly the weirdest throwing action ever), the intensity was there even with the match lost. Longy starts scoring well with some great cover shots to the treble 19 (practised them heavily on Monday night). Sets himself well with some good darts to leave 32 and takes it out with double 7 and double 9, get in! The Bob Anderson ‘point’ was shown to the board! Neck and neck on 155 after Longy came back with a 125 to follow Si’s 140. But couldn’t take out the double top or double 10. Level peggings into the final leg of the night. Again, even scoring throughout but 14 left. Aiming for double 7, Longy hit’s single 16 2 throws in a row and Si takes out 32, 16 double 8, to win the game. 6-3 down
A really good night, as always.
The food that came out, or should I say the food that Gemma left?!?, was roast spuds (I think), some lovely sarnies: roast beef, cheese & cucumber and cheese & pickle (of which I took some home and am eating as I write). Oh, don’t forget the onion rings too, luvvly jubbly.
Joe definitely offered to buy the round that I ordered too!
And even after all my grizzling about not skippering the side in the Winter League, maybe I will!
No subs were paid last night AGAIN. Monies need to come in for us to have the end of season do!
A good game of halves too, Joff in the hunt of winning and Joe not being bothered to write his scores up but Victor (Mark) was left with the mantle of Halves winner!
So, to summarise:
James didn’t play as he has a sore bollock.... Too much slapping on Shane’s chin I reckon?!?
Gaz won his doubles and singles to go joint singles winner with Longy
We had our best result of the season. I mean the 6-3 scoreline, not James being unavailable!
