As Longy arrives, Ian and Pete (finally back from rumping some bit of scruff in Essex) are getting in some much needed practice on the new match board!! The laptop is set up is set up ready to crunch in the scores and to calculate the averages! You see, I don't just look a bit like Steven Hawking, I have a mind like his too ha ha (Pictured below for those that don't know who he is!!).
The stats sheet is eventually pinned up on the board after much debate of where it should go.... Pete finally suggested 'the darts section of the notice board!!'. Good idea that haha.
The rest of our team arrive and grow suspiscious that we are in the wrong place as it took the opposition til 8:38 to pitch up. Oh well, they are here now... Well, 5 of them are anyway.
£3 from the subs gets pumped into the Jukebox and and Longy chooses a couple tracks, Bruce Springsteen and Kings of Leon, just to set the mood! C'maaannnnnnnnn!
We kick off this winnable fixture with a doubles game.... Looking to pro-long our unbeaten run of 6 doubles wins in a row Longy selects the returning Pistol Pete and matches him up with Emma. The first leg was over in a flash as both players got straight into their rhythm. Pete's average in the first leg = 64.50 with Emma well supporting with a blinding 60.75. These scores with no 100 scores. Suuupppppppeeeeeerrrrrrr Daaarrrrttttttssssss. PEte took out 32 so no missed sets of 3 at a double. Leg 2 underway and we check it out after a few missed darts at double and still no 100 scores. But a 2-0 win and unbeaten run continued. Get in! And to emphasise how good this was, this was against their best pairing!
A 2-1 win for Ian and Gaz in game 2 set us up nicely. Unbelieveable darts from Gaz in leg 2 saw him hit a 70.29 average which is by far the highest we have had this season. Great work. During this 3 legged affair (sounds a bit like Emmas ideal night in!!) Gaz hit 4 100 scores (our only player so far to hit 100 on the night). Great average Gaz and you took both winning legs out to prove you have the all round game (Yes, you still owe me a tenner for putting that comment in).
As Wayne hasn't turned up yet Des asked if I can postpone the doubles choice until after 9:30 (the latest a player can arrive) and in the spirit of the game I said yes. Joe goes on to play Danny Buxton and both played really well. Unfortunately for us, Joe was the wrong side of a 2-0 scoreline but steady darts all the way through. A 53.67 average in leg 1 was class. Well done. Consistency is creeping into your game now which is great to see. Just keep taking your time (and your medication ha ha).
Wayne has not arrived and the deadline has gone. Therefore, the singles and doubles games he would have played have been conceded and that puts us 4-1 up. Not the best way to get it but they all count.
Longy called himself up for the singles, tyo hopefully take the glory! Sue is the opponent (the player that beat Joe in our only game lost against them in the away fixture last year) so Longy was under no illusion that this would be an easy game. But the pressure was off knowing that Em, Ian and Gaz could still be called up to win if Longy failed. Job was done and victory was sealed with a steady 2-0 win.
Pete kept his average up with some good darts in a solid 2-0 display and Emma promptly followed up for her first singles win of the season with a 2-0.
Ian beat Clive 2-1 and finally managed to hit a 100 on the night.
Competetive games over and Longy and Joe played a friendly doubles and Gaz finished the night with a singles (obviously winning it!!!!!).
Loads of food was left so Longy took a packed lunch for work the next day! Which he would need to soak up the 7 pints of Carling that was consumed on the night.
3 out of 3 wins, Pistol Pete back and firing on all cylinders, still unbeaten in 9 doubles games and Helen finally putting pen to paper and signing for the mighty Romans as cover.
Roll on next week, whoever you are! Get in there!
