Not the fixture any of us were really looking forward to this season, Emma especially, but we turned up and looked to build on the up and down start we had to the season.
With a full compliment of players (for the first time this season) Longy and Gaz had to do some 'captaincy' work.
Arriving at 'The Home of Darts' (The Romans) Andy, Pete, Ian and Fran were practising. Longy had organised a birthday card to be signed (Lisa sorted it out) and everyone signed it. Fran Trezise who Joe beat in his first ever single's win was less than happy to do it but she did haha
New flights were dished out and then we set off on our way.
After reading on facebook that our opponents thought they were playing The Albion (ROYAL George are playing them) they had called all of the big boys in. In total they had 13 players (obviously if Gaz had counted that I would have to re-check it ha ha). How sad is that when there is only room for a maximum of 12 players to get a game. Fucking Joke. When I read we are playing St George I think of Pete Roughton, Mo Holmes, Andy Taylor and Dave Hetherington. Adam Griffith and Michael Case (formerly The Battle), Jon Palmer/Kevin Thompson (formerly Blue Lagoon) and Phil Rudwick/Paul Robinson (formerly The Romans) were all drafted in for this season and for some, their first game!
Longy and Ian kicked off with a great first leg win (no missed doubles) but Adam Griffith showed that he is a class player when under pressure and carried Michael through to win the game. The way he struts around really fucks me off but he played well!
They followed up with the strongest pairing Jon and Dave and Joe and Mark got off to a flyer but just couldn't score quick enogh when they got in to full flow.
2 Jagerbombs and 4 pints in Mark and Joe looked alright!
New boy Andy paired up with his old mate Pete and they looked like winning but again, solid scoring but just not enough when it mattered.
Ian ticked over and stoled a leg from Jon but couldn't get the vital double!
Gaz (or Mark according to Andy ha ha) for the first time this season didn't hit a 100 score in a game and looked to be struggling in the stuffiest pub in the land.
The food came out (smelling and looking rank) and was demolished by the non playing players from our opponents. It was like a fucking soup kitchen for the homeless!
Pete went 1-0 up (as he did against Andy Grace) but just couldn't hold on.
Joe was unlucky not to go 1-0 up after missing 12 darts at Double 4 and then wavered in the second leg.
Andy 2 x 95's and 3 x 100 scores in his 2-0 defeat against last seasons team mate, Paul.
On his way to the shitter, Paul said to Longy 'You look a lot slimmer in yr profile pic on facebook'. The response 'Lucky you don't cos yr a skinny cunt in real life' wasn't overly well received.
Longy got dicked 2-0 by Phil Taylor (I mean Rudwick) and that wrapped up the night 9-0.
However, we won 4 legs against them for which the Battle only won 1.
Thanks to Emma who kept the scores and opted out of playing. Shame cos she has been in good form in recent weeks on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Comment of the night, Longy to Dave (and most players in their team) 'Been busy @ work this week? No? Didn't think so!!!!!' ha ha
Gaz has closed his shop (I went their at 8am this morning to pick up my keys and the closed sign was up and heard 3 bangs and a oonnnnnnneee huuuuuuuuuuuunnndddrrrrreeeddd and eeeeiiigggghhhhtttyyyyyy ha ha).
Congrats to some good leg averages:
Longy: 19.4 and 19.1 in 2 out of 3 legs in doubles
Andy: 21.2 in Leg 2 of Doubles
And great work from Pete earned him another MoM award
With Longy and Joe away next week we have 6 players to make the picking a little easier :-)
