A family fair with Emma, Joff (Gemma’s bloke/ex or whatever) and our newest recruit Uncle Laurie (more like Granddad ha ha) playing against Lisa (Emma, cousin) and her fella Paul (also their skipper).
After getting down there without Mark and Lee, we had a solid team of 8 that were praying for and expecting the first win of the season (and Ever!!).
Longy called heads and lost but Paul wanted the pick and we had the throw.
A player from the Blue Lagoon B was throwing during the warm which aroused suspicions but he was only there as they had a bye this week but he was definitely sniffing round for a game. One question, did they stock his t shirt in adult sizes?!?
Doubles first, lets play daaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrtttttsssssssss
Laurie/Emma v Andy/Adam: The new recruit got us underway throws of 60,7 and 9 and Emma scored 21 and 43 so a little slow into stride. Adam smashed in scores of 97 an 100 on the way to taking the first leg. Second leg was similar and they looked just as tidy on the doubles. 1-0 down
As Emma (sporting the David Dickinson tan) walked off the oche without a Bobby Dazzler, Laura (League Secretary) walked in and gave us a copy of the table. We were propping up the rest. Thanks for the confidence boost.
Joe v Keith: With some solid scoring and some near misses on the doubles, another steady performance from ‘Frank’ this week. Definitely earnt himself a doubles game next week. 2-0 down
Gaz v Adam: Erratic in the first leg, either quality 81/60/100 or 32/26/20 but still good enough on the doubles to go 1-0 up against their best player by far. Adam came back with the bit between his teeth and although missing shots at doubles Gaz just couldn’t steal a 2-0 win. 1-1. Decider, sweaty palms (maybe a James style finger blow was required) but all eyes on the board!!! Gaz wins the toss but opening scores of 30/24/56/45/47 and 7 were matched and bettered by Adam who, after some great scoring, was on for a 15 dart leg and a 101 checkout. Ended up taking out 20 (10,2 & D4) for the game. 3-0 down
Shane v Si: Solid scoring earned the yell of ‘Bowled Shane’ from the dominant away support. Consecutive 60’s followed by an 80 should have seen him win the leg. But even with a miscount, Si took out D7 to take the upper hand. 2nd leg and the scoring from Shane was just as good. This time he levels up with D4 to make it 1-1. Another decider! No handshake from Si after he won the toss must have spurred Shane on as he looked steady throughout and took out D9 to get us on the scoresheet. Bowled Shane!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 3-1 down
Longy/Gaz v Neil / Harley: Nothing overly exciting here from the Dream Team. Just business as usual. Steady scoring in both legs of the 2-0 victory set us up with doubles chances. Longy took out 4 (2 & D1) and Gaz finished off 15 (3 & D6) for the game. Still unbeaten and Gaz never even hit a 26 (he did ahit a 21 and a 24 though ha ha). 3-2 down
The comeback is on, James serves Longy up some curry and chips (trying to weedle his way in to the doubles and singles action this week) and he gets back on the notepad.
Joff / Shane v Si / Paul: Erratic scoring from both but both hit 60+ in their first 2 throws. Joff hit a 58 and Shane followed in with 60 to leave 72. Joff hit 54 and Shane then hit D12 instead of D9. Joff stole the show with his first take out (other than a Domino's at every home game) and D9 was his after the first dart bounced out! Shane started the 2nd leg with a 121 and between him and Joff they got down to 32. Shane hit's 10/miss/D8 (instead of D11). They ended up taking out D20 to draw level. Joff calls heads in the decider, heads it was! Joff hits 41 & 100 Shane supports with 60 & 44. We surged in front and raced to a double first. With 68 left, Joff sets up with single 18 and a wire bending 25 that could so easily have been a Bull! Shane failed to take out the follow up. They had 64 left and took it out with 11, a flukey T13 and a D7. Unlucky lads, Joff's performance deserved to be in a winning one! 4-2 down
James v Neil: Hunting for his fourth singles win (the previous 3 have come when he has not had to concentrate on a doubles game too! Good management to leave him out of the doubles). Steady scoring throughout both legs. Altogether, he hit 5 x 60's. Great accuracy on the 20's! Also hitting 85, 66 and 88. D20 and D5 to win the legs, nice work! 4-3 down
Now the comeback is on!!!!
Longy v Adam: A slow start from Longy with opening scores of 26, 21 & 10 and was pressured by Adam who opened with 79, 45 and 94! How would he react? Well obviously (as per last week) he took a doubles and a singles win, only this week without dropping a leg! Double 1 to win both legs. 4-4
Emma v Paul: A ton in the first leg and 3 60+ scores in the 2nd was not enough to keep Paul (their skipper and Emma's cousins fella) at bay! His scoring was not as good as Emma's but Emma stuggled with the doubles and paul took them out. 5-4 down
Well, they were the worst supported side we have played all season (even though they had a guy from Blue Lagoon their) but the players were a good bunch!
Food was lovely and just what the doctor ordered, chicken curry and chips, gorgeous!
We had a good side out this week and were unlucky not to notch the first win! It is coming, next week hopefully.
Roll on Thursday!!!!!!
