After a few weeks away from competitive darts, a league fixture returns to the Mill!
We welcomed Pebbles, captained by the lovely Sue, for a night that would hopefully take us to 6 points and continue our gradual rise up the table (plus some food that had to be better than what we had at their place).
The atmosphere was different than normal, no real buzz. Longy and Mark pitched up after sacrificing a night out on their works do, James was a no show and Lee didn’t really wanna be there but did turn up.
Laura was there (distributing league tables) and this should have spurred us on a but as our recent form (if it continues) will see us climb the table.
Longy flipped the coin and Sue lost. The pick was chosen and Longy lumped for his dead cert for the night –
Gaz v Chris: These boys met in the singles the last time we played and the encounter was just as close. A steady start saw Gaz hit single 20 with 2 darts in is first 4 throws but only on his 5th throw did he get 3 in a bed and score 60. Chris chipped away in similar style before hitting 2 80+ scores to set himself up with a D4 outshot. 2nd Leg, Gaz needing to win. He solidly chipped away as he did in Leg 1 but came up with the goods - T20/T20/T1 to leave 52. Chris returns with 2 90+ scores to leave 96. Well, Gaz hit his only 26 of the game but followed up with 60/60/100/60/80 (the 80 did include a Brucey) and missed a great opportunity to win as he missed 3 darts a D10. Chris scored steadily but took out 72 with ease with 14/18/D20. A great finish! 1-0 Down
Needing to draw level Longy steps up (NO PRESSURE)
Longy v Dan: Clash of the big guns (size and quality!!) for the chance to draw level. Longy starts with a ton and follows up with a classy 26 (Gazza). Dan weighs in with a ton followed by 115 (great arrows mate). Longy under pressure and looking like losing the leg comes back with a 105 to pressure and then and follows up with a 1 dart D20. Longy chips in with 55/43/95 but with a ton followed by 60 and a great 73 checkout in the 2nd leg the game was tied. 1 throw from each player in the 3rd scored over 60 but Longy took out the vital shot to tie the match up. 1-1
Doubles time and Longy has been banging on about needing to win the Doubles games and we will win matches. With the strength of our regular singles play, this is the case.
Lee/Mark v Pat/Rachael: With Mark returning from a leave of absence (AWOL since 14th October v Romans) he was on fine form and took out D17 to win the first leg. His scoring was average but Lee crashed in a ton. Second leg underway and Lee continued scoring well but it was Jimmy Neutron who took out Double Top on the 3rd dart to put us in front. Get in there! 2-1 up
It has been a long time since I started writing this report but we were very unlucky and another 5-4 defeat it was!
Emma took the MoM award and it was well deserved!
