Sorry for the late report!
When Shane and James arrived with Gaz and Longy Joe and Joff were in hysterics (none of us knew why). The only thing we knew was that Emma wasn't looking too happy!!!!!!
Joff, who liked like Richie Cunningham from Happy Days (Jams and SHane, yr probably too young to remember!) offers to buy a round cos it was cheap as chips!! Fair play, as long as I didn't have to buy one!
Shane bangs a 180 in the warm up, hopefully this was a sign of things to come :-)
Longy wins the toss and puts the in form Gaz into bat:
Gaz v John:ALthough Gaz got down to 32 with a great 121 Payney was scoring a little better and checked out 38 with D19. Starting the 2nd leg with a 180 would always be tough to come back from but Gaz comes back with 119 and 121. Payney comes in with a 140 and finished off 5 (1 & D2) for a 20 darter. Gaz had got down to 22 but 1 shot too late! 1-0 Down
Em & Joff: Slow scoring from both teams but Joff hits a 98 and Em comes in with 85 to leave 51. After busting 36 they took it out with D18 their 5 dart! Scoring from us even slower in the second leg from us but they start with 140, 60, 85 and 60. They took out D11 after cruising in front. 2-0 Down
Longy v Stu: Ex Southwick FC team mates came head to head in a game that could have gone either way. No massive scores but Stu took out D20 when Longy was on 218. 2nd leg was much better and Longy hit an 81 & 100 whilst setting up a 112 finish. Stu bangs in a 121 whilst setting up a 125 outshot. Stu hits a measly 37 leaving 88 and Longy hits T20 (checks with scorer), Single 20 and a single 8 when going for D16. Stu takes out 88 and Longy suffers a 2-0 defeat (first for a while). 3-0 Down
Joe & Gaz: Gazza hits a ton and Joe hits a 74 and that us all there is to really say about the doubles game! Other than the fact that Payney hit a snd 180 of the night. In the second leg he hit 100, 180, 100 and took out 51 in 2 darts. The 11 darts he threw in this leg averaged 39.18 PER DART!!!!!! 4-0 Down
Shane v Tony: A ton each in the first leg but D20 by Tony nudged him in front. 2 tons from Tony couldn't quite be matched but the scoring was steady from Shane (although he was too worried whether Lewis was gonna answer the phone!!). Tony hit D16 withoit Shane having a shot at a double. 5-0 Down and game lost
James/Shane v Tony & Russell: A 15 start from Shane and a ton scored by James wasn't enough to keep them in the first leg. 2nd Leg was much better and Shane hit an 81 (followed by an all over the place 14) whilst James' scoring is much better with a ton followed by an 80! Again, it was too little too late. 6-0 Down
Emma v Russ: Em kicks off wiith some good, solid arrows. 60, 81 and an 80 got her down to 68 but Russ, who scored nowhere near as well took out D2. A ton from Emma (that gets her name on the achievements board again) wasn't enough either as Russ had 1 dart at D16 and took it out! 7-0 Down
Joe: Kicking off with some average darts Joe founf himself on 65. His opponent hit 81 and then consecutive tons to set up 40. Joe mussed 2 darts at D8 and matey missed 7 darts @ D20 but ended up taking out D10. 2nd leg Joe scored 79, 92 followed by a ton. The oppo hit 3 consecutive 60's and took out D7 with 1 dart. 8-0 Down
James: Our last chance to win a leg, could he do it? With a ton followed by 2 60's and some below par scoring from the opposition Gumbo found himself on 50. A wild attempt at Bull hits single 20 but 1 dart was all he needed to hit the D15. Get in...... 58, 60, 60, 70 and 60 is pretty good scoring but James was frustrated at not hitting a ton in this leg. The oppo hit a ton, 140 and 97 and took out D4 with 1 dart. 1-1 and all to play for. James suggest nearest to the bull and hits a 25. 6 dscores below 60 and a ton were James scoring leaving him 93. Matey hits T20 with is first dart in 4 throws but no ton. but with 54 left he hits single 4. Encouraged by James he goes for the bull and nails it 1 dart. 9-0
A real lesson learnt here lads (and ladette) but I thought we scored pretty well (as reflected in the averages!
Food was a great surprise and the venue in general was brilliant (apart from the slope on the oche of the practice board).
Better luck next week!
