This was the same opponent that beaten us 1-7 back in Decemeber at First Toa Payoh. That game will always be remebered that we loan Colin to the opponent due to lack of players and he duly scoed against us and failed to score agianst this opponent when he came back to play for our team. Sorry Colin, it has to be you again.
We started the cam with only 14 players as 3 players pulled out on game day itself and we couldn't find any replacement in the last minute.
We started the game in the same formation that I had implemented 4-1-4-1.
Goalkeeper: Patrick
Defence: Daryl / Kee / Roger / Bee
D Midfield: Ron
Midfield: Nick / Andy / Lawrence / Harold
Striker: Colin
Subs: Jiunn / Jerome / Damian
We started the game well with Lawrence scoring the first goal within the 1st min. It was a good lob from Ron that found Lawrence with acres of space in the middle. Lawrence stomed thru with only the keeper to beat and he lob a beatuiful lob over the on rushing keeper.
We scored our second 5 mins later when we opened up the opponents midfield and defence. Colin received a ball from the middle and layed a well weighted pass to Nick on the left. Their defence was exposed and Nick run on goal and fired a powerful shot from outside the box and scored. The opponent was rattled as they had a slow start to the game.
The rest of the first half was all Fonza. They began to compose themselves and made some brillant moves between their midfield and wings. At times they were playing with 3 forwards and pushed our midfield and defence to the limit. Ron has to come off in less than 20 mins into the game as he was overwhelmed by their pressing. Their persistent finally payed off. They scored 2 quick goals with 3 mins to level the game. They took 2 good shots from outside the box that left Partick stranded.
Half time team talk was about pressing in the middle and pass wide to stretch the opponent's defence. We didn't start the 2nd half well as we conceded 5 goals in the space of 20 mins. Fonza picked up where they left off in the first half and with fluid movements and passing, breached our defence several times. Patrick could not prevent any 1 on 1 suitation on a couple of occasions. Our defence was somehow not in sync and this is sometime we have to work on to prevent such scenarios from happening again.
The team fought back with 2 goals in the last 10 mins of the game. Another good pass form the middle from Ron found Colin and he duly put away his goal. His redemption from the previous game. Damain scored the final goals from a Harold corner.
Nick gets the MoM for this game. His tirlessly running on the left side and a goal for his return after 2 months out was simply deserving.
