Baz had a healthy looking squad opting to start the Squizz/Colin partnership up front and stick with Casso in goal , leaving top notch goalie Dan Elwell and speedy attacker Lloyd Hewitt on the bench. The usual November 6th smog had failed to show and a beautiful crisp morning heralded our long awaited start at the 'Pulse Stadium', our new ground. The opening gambits produced by far our best football of thye morning as we strutted our stuff on the beautiful surface , controlling the game with confidence and patience . Think Alan Hansen and Mark Lawrenson (Liverpool seventies) as Hickers and Ben fed the full backs in . The pressure paid off as a goal bound strike was handled on the line by the unlucky Sikh Temple defender who was duly dismissed for his instinctive reaction . Gaz Wilkes stepped up and to be fair hit a decent pen but the Guru Nanak stopper dived to his left to parry . Wilkes got a second stab however which again was parried on to the bar ...up steps 'The Squirrel' to fill his boots and poach the opening goal- 1-0 to us . We continued to knock the ball around but wasted much of our possesion with poor final crosses into the box and wasted chances. Our frustration looked to be over when that man Ben Lawley picked out the overlapping ! Toone who fed in Squizz to slot home his second on the turn. Here's the scene : A lovely morning,a nice pitch , playing great stuff against a hard working but impotent ten-man opposition and 2-0 up to boot. What did we do? ..start arguing and whingeing between ourselves giving the Sikh Temple several chances in the process. Baz was flummoxed as we allowed ourselves to get frustrated and wasteful with the ball. The game went very flat after the interval as our forwards lacked movement or urgency . However we did enough to contain the weary opposition and at this stage never looked in danger. Baz replaced Squiz and Col with Gam and Lloyd to freshen up matters and Lloyd added the much needed urgency as he chased down a defensive error to score wthin 30 seconds of his introduction. However the Wolverhampton outfit had other ideas ...Gammo had onlt to square the ball to Lloyd to make it four but slipped as he crossed and the Guru Nanak counter attacked to pull back to 3-1. We still attacked and could have had more but our forward players were now balzing away like headless chickens leaving Hickerman rightly bellowing for control and patience up front to ease the pressure. In short we were making very hard work of a game we were dominating even when they had 11 men . Tempers frayed and we also got embroiled with that ....at one point reducing the game to a shambles. As the game melted into what should have been a comfortable win, their midfielder went on a solo dribble and got a few lucky bounces to claw it back to 2-3 . This gave us an uncomfortable few minutes as the ref added on the time spent throwing handbags earlier . On a day when Baz should have been relaxing second half on a deck chair , he was pulling his hair out .....we must begin to accept we ay going to roll over sides this year and not get frustrated when things don't go our way all the time. We really ay got out of bed since the Corpus game that we lost 2-0 . Still we are in third place but with some tough fixtures ahead so we know we have got to up the anti lads . Man Of the Match - Ben Lawley with Hickers and Gaz Holder pushing him close.
