For the first time in his two years of tenure the players are looking to manager Barrington for inspiration as once again the Junction Express chuntered to an exasperating halt against a mediocre Wednesfield side. With Toony injured , Gaz at the Punjab Adventure Park and Squizz (no show) , Plant threw in rookie Mitch Lawley as main striker . This cannot be used as an excuse lads - the opposition didnt look up for it and we were back on Hydes unbeaten there in 20 months so all looked rosy as we kicked off on the uppers. Once again we dominated the opening exchanges and (I get tired of saying it) should have been three up after 20 minutes with several near misses. Wednesfield looked awful and resorted to hopeful punts , one of which looked to be heading into Casso's capable arms . A lack of concentration from the ginger one allowed the ball to spin into the path of the away striker who rolled a harmless effort towards our net, well protected by the reliable Ben Lawley. For a split second the world stood still as the Lawman put his pool skills to the test and backspun the bakll into his own goal. To be fair no-one panicked and equilibrium ensued when a Wednesfield defender maintained the Comedy of Errors and slotted the ball past his keeper to equalize. Half time 1-1 . No danger..same as last week ..we were easily the better side and needed to wake up our ideas a bit and put the game to bed. Basically as a side we did what was asked . ....continuing to dominate play. Once again though we left gaps and a long hoof to the left winger gave the Wednesfield striker a run on goal .Casso came out well and forced the player to slot it wide , but inexplicably followed through and took his legs completely . As our portly custodian began his expected walk of shame , the ref relented and handed him a yellow , only for Shaun to fail in his attempts to block the penno. The resulting fiasco was without doubt the worst passage of play we have produced all season as we bickered , argued and squabbled with anyone around , all looking at team mates for faults and blame. Wednesfield notched an unlikely third when a player 3 yards offside was allowed to dribble through unchallenged , the ref ignoring my flag (admittedly I was badly positioned but he was well off from any angle) . Roberts pulled one back as we finally sprung into action . Lloyd continued to run into trouble but Colin got plenty joy on the right and fired in some good crosses , with no one able to meet them. However it wasnt to be today ...Wednesfield were far from anything special but we have got to improve our general attitude as well as being a bit brighter when it comes to over committing going forward . A much improved CastleCroft side provide the opposition this Sunday at Wolves Cricket Club . Meet at Bens 9 15 am. PS This Sunday is the 18th and our last game till 8th January...........a few in the Jolly Junc followed by a jaunt round delightful Darlo before heading to the Christmas Lights in Wednesbury Winter Wonderland .
