Roe Cross Simmondley...7 Boythorpe...5
Derbyshire Sunday Junior Cup 2nd Round
Boythorpe EVENTUALLY made the LONG trip to Cheshire at the THIRD time of asking, and were met by what appeared to be an Oasis inbreds convention as EVERYBODY looked and spoke the same. Straight from the kick off Boythorpe were under the cosh, and it took an early save from Furniss and a clearence from Whitehead to avoid the hosts taking a 15 SECOND LEAD. This however was only a respite for a few moments as the striker fired home from 6 yards from the resultant corner for 1-0. After 5 minutes Boythorpe were robbed for what was not going to be the last time in the game when Wright was tripped in the box for what appeared to be a NAILED ON PENALTY but the ref waved play on.
Roe Cross pushed forward again, and Brown was robbed 35 yards out, but Whitehead cleared the danger. The hosts extended thier lead on 14 minutes, Higinbottom was passed easily on the wing and the player crossed well, Goodwin allowed the striker to step away from him to give him space to head over Furniss in the visitors goal. Bonson dithered and lost the ball seconds later, the pin sharp cross was prodded wide by the hosts striker. This prompted Blues Manager Benny to revert to a 4-4-2 formation to nutralise the red hot hosts attack. Great work by Wright released Bonson but he failed to control the ball and gave away a throw in. Furniss came to the rescue again on 20 mins, saving a header from a free kick, holding the ball just under the bar.
On 22 nmins a Roe Cross attack saw the ball hoisted over Higginbottom, but the striker fired over. Boythorpe eventually got a toe hold on the game on 24 mins when Shane Bennett slipped the ball through to WIDERMAN who took his time before slotting the ball low past the keepers right hand. This caused panic as Boythorpe pushed forward again, Paul Walton found Wright who fired just wide. At the other end Roe Cross winger raced clear before bending his shot just wide.
Boythorpe grabbed a well deserved equaliser on 34 mins, great work by Paul Walton saw him find WIDERMAN and the in form striker did the rest beating the home keeper easily. The Blues then, after pulling back, shot themselves in the foot failing to clear from a throw in handed Roe Cross the lead again. Wright had a chance on 40 mins after a great turn and pass by Brown just evaded him. HALF TIME Roe Cross...3 Boythorpe...2
Boythorpe then started the second half kicking down the slope, and within a minute of the restart, pulled the game back again, LEE WALTONs persistance out wide was rewarded,as he came away with the ball, he then traded passes with Brown before being played back in, he took his time before putting the ball beyond the keepers dive and into the corner of the net for 3-3. Roe Cross almost retook the lead on 52 mins as the game swung end to end, a cross evaded Furniss but the striker at the back post fired into the side netting. Widerman almost grabbed the lead for the Blues when he cheekily tried to lob the keeper from 30 yards, but he didnt put enough on the ball and the effort was saved.
On the hour the hosts grabbed the lead again, a run up the wing was crossed in and the striker prodded the ball home. 3 mins later Bonson was robbed 25 yards out but the striker hit the post with his effort. BROWN scored th first of TWO cracking goals on 65 mins when hew SMASHED a SCREAMER of a shot from 40 yards out leaving the keeper grasping at fresh air as the ball hit the net. Paul Walton was substituted on 66 mins to allow the pacy Megyesi to run at the hosts. The referee then made what was to be the most riddiculous decision of the game Brown floated in a free kick from the right but Widerman and Wright moved too soon and the ref BLEW FOR A FREE KICK. Instead of STOPPING the game he told the keepern TO PLAY ON ??????? He hoofed the ball forward and caught the Blues defence out and Roe Cross scored again for 5-4. BROWN though replied for Boythorpe, picking the ball up 35 yards out from a throw in before pushing forward and AGAIN catching the keeper out from a rasping drive. The game was evenly balanced and it took a rank bad piece of luck for Roe Cross to take the lead again, a ball crossed in was turned past his own keeper by the unlucky Whitehead. Benny the did a double swap, Lawrence and Miles replacing Bonson and Whitehead as the game came to a close. There was just time for Roe Cross to stick another dagger in the Boythorpe heart, crossing a ball that had CLEARLY gone OUT of play and turning the ball past Furniss in the 89 th minute.
