Not for the first time, Britannia let a lead slip in the last 3 minutes, against a Holmbrook side when they needed a positive result. The game started well for both sides who ironically share the SAME pitch. A good team move after 3 minutes saw Wright just put his shot wide when well placed. At the other end Furniss had to be on his toes just 2 mins later making a fine save. The game burst into life soon after, Mitchell recieving his FIFTH caution of the season. He made ammends however on 14 mins, Brown was sent clear down the wing, he raced past the defender before checking his run and picking out MITCHELL just 8 yards from goal. The in form striker scored after a wicked deflection off a Holmbrook defender wrong footed his keeper and the ball looped beyond him. Whiteheads game was cut short on 18 mins, when his terrible bad luck with injuries continued, Higginbottom came on to replace him.
Soon after Megyesi went close, just putting his shot wide with the keeper beaten. Walton suffered the same fate on 21 mins after being picked out by the impressive Brown. Britannia were piling the pressure on at this point but on the break Holmbrook went close on 23 mins a cross eluded everyone and the Holmbrook striker FLUFFED an open goal from just THREE FEET OUT!!! For the MISS of the season. MITCHELL doubled his, AND Britannia's total on 28 mins, a ball from Walton found Wright who was hauled down 20 yards from goal, Mitchell curled a sublime free kick beyond the wall and into the net for his TWELFTH league goal in SIX league games.
Furniss was on hand again to make a fine double save just after the half hour, and at the other end Walton's cheeky step over saw Megyesi go close. Holmbrook got back into the game just 5 mins from half time, a ball that appeared to go out for a Britannia throw was played on winning the visitors a corner. Mitchell slipped trying to clear, the ball was put back in, Furniss made a fine save, but the clearance was SMASHED against a Holmbrook striker and the ball found its way into the hosts net. Holmbrook started the 2nd half well and went close within 5 mins of the restart, a free kick 25 yards out just going over the bar. Furniss endorsed his MOTM status making yet another fine save on 50 mins after a bad mistake by Higginbottom set Holmbrook clear. Britannia were just hanging on as Holmbrook pushed forward in search of an equaliser. The defence switched off at another free kick, but the chance went just wide. Megyesi went close with one of the FEW chances they had in the 2nd half. Holmbrook went close again on the hour a mistake at the back caused panic but the chance was badly headed wide when it appeared easier to score.
Britannia were ROCKING and with no sort of rhytham to their play tempers became frayed as they failed to put the visitors under any sort of pressure. The goal that was threatened all the half came with 20 mins to go with YET ANOTHER mistake at the back. Britannia went close moments later when a fine strike by Goodwin came back off the post. The Referee appeared to lose some sort of control and found himself having to issue FIVE more yellow cards. Brown, Walton and Goodwin for Britannia TWO of which were VERY, VERY harsh and TWO for Holmbrook. Fouls were coming in from both sides and after a foul Mitchell had to be replaced by Cupitt.
