Boythorpe were looking to wipe away memories of the dreadful home defeat last week with a visit to a team who have caused the blues problems in the past. Boythorpe kicked down the slope in the first half and the opening exchanges were pretty even. The first real effort fell to the blues, a great ball by Goodwin found Widerman out on the left wing, but his cross was cut out and the keeper smothered the ball. Widerman went close in the 14th minute, but the keeper smartly tipped the strikers effort over. The lively Widerman was causing the Swans defence problems moments later, when his cross just bounced away with Wright closing in. Scott Bennett went close on 16 mins, Walton found Wright who cut the ball back, but the striker fired just over. Boythorpe were pushing forward at will now, with the new 4-3-3 formation giving the midfielders room to push forward, and on 18 mins a run by Brown found Bonson, who crossed, but the ball just evaded Wright.
Boythorpe took a well deserved lead on 22 mins, Higginbottom picked up the ball just outside his own box, and found LEE WALTON who pushed forward, before unleashing a 35 yard screamer that had the home keeper hoplessly flapping at the shot. Boythorpe made it 2-0 just 2 minutes later, a Shane Bennett corner was cut across the box to DEAN BROWN who fired his shot in from 22 yards out. It was a very profitable 6 minutes for the visitors as the score became 3-0 within ANOTHER 2 mins following a foul on Widerman 20 yards from goal, BROWN stepped up and smashed the free kick beyond the keepers dispairing dive.
SHANE BENNETT grabbed his first goal of the season after 28 mins, his direct corner floated into the net beyond the keeper and defenders as Boythorpe took a complete stranglehold of the game and they put the contest seemingly beyond White Swan netting the FIFTH goal in an 11 minute spell, a great run by Wright found Widerman who worked the space well down the wing, before cutting the ball back to LEE WALTON who put away the chance well.
The game cooled down for a few minutes as White Swan tried to collect themelves, but Brown went close with a rasping drive that went just wide of the post with the keeper well beaten. As half time closed in Boythorpe made, what is becoming a little too often defensive mistake, A corner by the home side just wasnt dealt with, and the man on the back post couldnt believe his luck as he had time and space to prod the ball home from just 2 yards out HALF TIME White Swan Reserves...1 Boythorpe...5.
Boythorpe started the 2nd half with the mistake at the end of the first half still on thier minds, they promptly shot themselves in the foot within 2 mins of the restart. A throw in deep in the visitors half saw them make a complete hash of everything, a short ball by Goodwin to Bonson saw the wing back lose possesion of the ball in a dangerous position, the ball was taken on by the attacker who fired the ball beyond Furniss and into the net. Swan began to get more into the game and for a while Boythorpe found themselves under pressure. Swan almost grabbed a 3rd on 54 mins a snap shot came back off the Boythorpe crossbar with Furniss again beaten. Paul Walton came on for Scott Bennett who had done well considering he had spent the week battling against flu.
With Paul Walton dropping a bit deeper he began to win the ball and push forward bringing other people into the game, this forced Swan onto the defensive and allowed Bonson to get further and further forward. He began to hurt the Swan defence with his pacy running, and good moves between Widerman, Lee Walton and Shane Bennett saw Boythorpe regain control of the game. A nasty clash with just 10 mins left saw Whitehead having to be substituted, with Hardy filling the void.
Boythorpe wrapped the game up with just 6 mins left, Bonson caused panic at the back by working space out on the left, before picking out PAUL WALTON who took the ball on, beating a couple of defenders before curling his shot beyond the grasp of the home keeper. FULL TIME White Swan Reserves...2 Boythorpe...6. This victory coupled with defeat for next weeks opponents Masons Arms at home to Chesterfield Phoenix, and a draw for Renishaw at Hopflower Utd saw Boythorpe climb back into 2nd place in the league, just 1 point off the leaders with a game in hand.
