Boythorpe went into thier 3rd pre- season game in good spirit following the two very good results under thier belts in the previous seven days. Benny made just cosmetic changes, starting striker Kev Widerman who had shook off his illness, but were still unfortunatly without midfield dynamo Shaun Goodwin (inj), and defender John Johnson out for personal reasons.
Boythorpe started in thier changed shirts of yellow, due to a slight clash in tops, and took a good 5 mins before getting a serious chance at goal. A long ball from Whitehead found Wright whos snapshot was turned over the bar for a corner. The first injustice of the day came when a Hasland striker went down in the box for a SOFT penalty. Justice in the end prevailed as the spot kick was put WELL wide of the left upright. From the resulting goal kick, which Furniss made a hash of, slicing it to a HASLAND player, thus causing havoc in the Blues defence before it was hacked away to safety.
Boythorpe found that this was going to be a tough encounter when they came under pressure again after 12 mins, they struggled to clear a ball into the 18 yard box, and it took a MAGNIFICENT save from Furniss to keep the sides level. Hasland eventually took the lead on 18 mins, a long ball over the top beat the offside trap and the shot was slid past Furniss for 1-0. Boythorpe had a good few mins spell around the mid way point of he half, first good work by Widerman found Wright who put the ball across, Widerman won the ball back and this time found Brown whos shot was saved. From a throw in seconds later Brown cut through a couple of defenders before having his shot tipped round the post. From the resulting corner Wright put his effort wide, on 23 a great ball down the flank by Shane Bennett found Widerman whos cross hit the post, from this Hasland broke forward and won a corner, beutifully cleared by Whitehead.
Just as Boythorpe looked to be getting a foothold in the game the next strange incident occured. Boythorpe should have had a free kick but it was waved away cos the referee WAS LOOKING HOW LONG WAS LEFT TO HALF TIME??? LOL. He informed the players 10 MINUTES. Hasland took a two goal lead 1 min later in the 41st minute, after a game of pinball in the Boythorpe box was cleared just outside the area to a Hasland player who fired through a crowd and in for 2-0. The ref blew for half time 2 mins later ?????? (are you keeping up with this??? HALF TIME(lol again!!) Haland Wands..2 Boythorpe..0
Subs at half time were Potter in for Furniss, Miles in for Hardy, and Scott Bennett on for Wright. Boythorpe were facing a tough task as Hasland began to take advantage kicking downhill second half, they still tried to play the attractive football Benny wants them too, and at times were putting Hasland under pressure. Brown, P. Walton and Widerman were constantly trying to make a breakthrough, but the team never seemed to get Lee Walton into the game as much as they like too. Hasland eventually made the game seem safe after 68 mins making the score 3-0, but Boythorpe made a deserved breakthrough on 75 mins when Shane Bennett fed the ball to PAUL WALTON about 30 yards out and he crashed his trademark thunderbolt past the despairing dive from the keeper.
Another twist of the knife in the 80th made it 4-1, Potter was quite clearley fouled as he tried to gather a high ball, the attacker had his shoulder in the back of the keeper forcing him to drop the catch and into the net. All the Hasland players as one said he flapped it into the net.....WHATEVER!!!!! Further misery was heaped upon us in the 85th min, but quite frankly Hasland at that time had got the result the referee had wanted, and we couldnt have give a shit by then anyway and just wanted the final whistle (whatever the time the ref decided that was) But there was still time for some WIDERMAN magic when he picked the ball up by the touchline and put over a shot/cross that looped over the bemused keeper for 5-2. It was shortly after that the final whistle blew, probably cos we had scored a couple and THAT WASNT in the referees script, so he soon put a stop to that!!! FINAL SCORE Hasland Wands...5 Boythorpe...2.
