Both teams had a point to prove after poor results recently, in front of the biggest home crowd in years, you could almost hear the anticipation buzzing around the Middlesex stadium. The stones also had to deal with their inspirational captain being away.
Big Steve had a very quick team talk before the game and briefly mentioned that he didn't want us to talk to the ref.
The game kicked off with Harefield making the better start but the Stones defended solidly and when Ollie slipped a through pass into Luke he took his chance. The team settled down after taking the lead and were looking a bit more comfortable until Danny, all arms and legs star jumped the ball which found Harefields best player on the day who took his chance. This was Danny's only mistake during the game.
Another motivating talk from Steve ''Fergie'' Pullem at half time and the Stones strung a few passes together which lead to Ollie being played in and knocking his shot just over the bar. Steve ''Fergie'' Pullem said to Ollie just to round the keeping if he got anther chance.
Next was a game changing point which help Stonefield realise we were in the game together and had to keep working hard if they wanted to get anything from the game. Peter called for the ball............
Carl Pullem who was having his best game in recent weeks then played Ollie in he took the gaffer's advice and rounded the keeper to put the Stones in front. During the game Ryan displayed why he felt so disappointed in his performance from last week with some great hands holding on to any shots that came his way.
Ollie was again put through and confidently repeated his first goal by rounding the keeper and scoring again. 3 -1 up and starting to look comfortable Captain Camp decided to make some more changes. Bringing a bit of experience and legs in DC and hodge.
Teams seem to be scoring some great goals against us this season and this happened again when Harefields full back ventured forward and ping his shot top bin. Leaving Ryan no chance.
This gave Harefield a bit of encouragement but the Stones remained strong and shut them out. A result was ground out and maybe didn't deserve to take the all three points but it was a much better team performance than last week and something to build on. Well done all today.
