Match Report coming by Matt Lorrigan
With the absence of Steve Pullem and Darren Carter, it was down to Dave Thomas to take on the role of player-manager in this weeks big rematch against Northolt Saints
After losing 5-1 away last time, everyone wanted a win at home this week to settle the scores
Stonefield came out and started very well, with Hodge creating an early chance through on goal before slicing the shot left past the keeper. O’brian had the next big chance of the game when an excellent through ball left him one on one with the keeper but he just couldn’t keep his lob down, and then moments later Chris cut onto his right foot on too many times after sending the keeper the wrong way. Stones then won a corner, which came in, deflected off of tommy and danny king knocked it into the goal…but no goal was given! The ball went a clear 2 yards over the line but the opposition linesman had the sun in his eyes – likely story. Stones should have been a goal up, and deserved it.
Stones looked the superior side, but we know Northholt can score wonder goals, and their number eight was given just enough room to cut in from the right and strike a stupendous shot that left Mully standing as he watched the ball fly into the corner.
By half time stones could have been well ahead, but just hadn’t finished our chances. hodge came off after an excellent performance and was replaced by carl pullem. Only five minutes into the second half though, Chris woods, under shouts to SHOOT from paul Kelly, had a shot from 30 yards out scoop over the keeper and into the back of the net. Stonefield finally had the goal we deserved.
Stone’s chances kept on coming and Northolt were looking weak at the back while stonefield’s attack looked silky smooth, and fifteen minutes later the second goal came, a bullet header from, would you have guessed it, carl pullem! The midfielder who doesn’t jump came running in with his eyes closed to a crossed ball at the back post, and powered the ball into the goal, nearly head butting the post in the process.
70 minutes in and stone’s were 3-1 up with the second headed goal of the game from jake Wilson, who climbed at knocked the ball in from a carl Collins corner.
Stone’s had plenty of chances after this, and won the game comfortably, with another solid home performance.
