The SSAFC bounced back from a defeat at Posh to record a victory at home to Shrewsbury who had SSAFC manager Keith Bell play for them as they had 10 players so Danny Wishart took a caretaker role for this game.
The SSAFC started well with high pressure and looked danagerous at times but had some sloppy moments at the back but nothing came of it. The SSAFC opened the scoring when a goalmouth scramble found Wedge who slotted home to make it 1-0 to the SSAFC. Shrewsbury then looked to get back in the game and some pot shots found Court in goal who saved well.
Shrewsbury then got back in the game and it was the SSAFC gaffer Bell who scored for them when a corner from the left was whipped in and found Bell unmarked to head in against the club he runs! No match fixing here to say the least.
The SSAFC then looked to get back into it and Wedge had a golden chance when Ridley launched the ball forward and Wedge tried to lob the keeper but went wide. The SSAFC then got the lead when good play on the edge of the Shrews box found Gentleman who's shot took a little deflection and went into the bottom corner to make it 2-1. 2 became 3 when a long ball from Ridley again caused a problem for the Shrews backline & found Wedge and this time, he got the lob right and made it 3-1.
The SSAFC had more chances but found the Shrews keeper in fine form denying the strike force of Wedge & Swales but could do nothing when Rowe unleashed a beautiful shot from 25 yards which flew into the top corner and made it 4-1. Shrewsbury then got a way back into the game when a free kick found their striker who's miscued shot found the left winger who slotted home despite the best efforts of Court in goal and made it 4-2.
There was time for an SSAFC 5th when a quick throw found Gentleman and his cross was glanced in by a Shrewsbury head into the net making it an own goal and making it 5-2 to the SSAFC which was harsh on a Shrewsbury team who played some good football.
The second half started badly for the SSAFC when Jeorge Wedge conceded a penalty 5 minutes into the half but Court in goal dived to his left and made a good save from their strikers penalty. The game was a midfield battle with Shrewsbury looking to attack and the SSAFC looking to hit on the counter. Gentleman after good work had his 25 yard shot rattle the bar & Pickett was denied by a good save by the keeper.
Swales then was guilty of a chance when good work on the right found him but he sliced his side footed shot wide of the goal. Shrewsbury then had some good chances with their striker having a few good chances but found a stubborn Court in goal who denied him at every chance. The game wasnt as lively as the first half and the only goal of the half came from Shrewsbury right at the end of the game when a long throw came in and once again Bell headed home to score twice against his own side!
The full time whistle went and the SSAFC gained a good 5-3 victory against a battling Shrewsbury team with some good team play and good finishing
