The SSAFC picked up their 8th win in 9th games with a convincing 6-1 win against Northampton on what was a boggy wet pitch which didnt suit a decent passing game.
The SSAFC started brighty with some good high pressure on what was a long narrow pitch but had little in the way of attacking with Bell wasting a golden chance from a corner with the volley go well over! The backline for the SSAFC had to deal with some long balls but was comfortable for Peacock who suffered a knock during the half when he was caught by the striker when chasing the ball. Collins had a good 25 yard effort tipped wide but it wasnt long before the SSAFC took the lead when good play by Chesworth, found Collins who's effort was deflected to McKechnie who done a cheeky flick on which evaded the keeper and went into the net to make it 1-0.
The SSAFC looked to press on but Northampton got an equaliser when the striker sprinted pass and his effort was weak but Peacock could only tip it on the post before a tap in for the Cobblers, a frustrating moment for the SSAFC. Northampton had their tails up and could have taken the lead when their striker went through but Barker made a cruical tackle to deny him and clear the danger.
The SSAFC then looked to take the game to their opponents and re-taken the lead when Teale made room for the effort which was blocked but the rebound fell to Bell who toepunted it into the bar and in to make it 2-1! The SSAFC then carried on their attack with Sapsed having a volley go over and Teale having an effort go wide. Teale tho wouldnt be denied when from a corner, Collins whipped in a lovely cross which found the unmarked Teale who headed home to give him his goal and a 3-1 lead for the SSAFC.
Collins then had a volley well saved before half time with the SSAFC taking a lead into the break
The SSAFC made changes at the break and continued to dominate high up the pitch with good play. Some good play found Stapleton who's effort was saved. Another sub Wedge got on the goalsheet when a good clearance from Scarrott found the head of Teale who with a good knock down found Wedge who smashed home from 15 yards leaving the keeper no chance in the goal to make it 4-1! The SSAFC looked to press on and had some good chances with Teale missing out on a goal.
It wasnt long till the 5th came and it was Wedge again when Brown on the left hand side crossed in a lovely ball who found Wedge who with his weaker right foot finished superbly. The SSAFC dominated large spells with Peacock in goal having not a lot to do, a few shots from Northampton didnt test the backline with Rowe & Barker at the back clearing up any danger! Collins then had good work on the sideline which could have got a penalty when he was clipped but carried on and whipped in a wonderful cross which evaded everyone! Collins was denied again by the Cobblers keeper who tipped his long range effort around the post.
It was a shame that the keeper had a horrendous error for the final goal when a Wishart cross was cleared who found Bell who's volley from 30 yards was weak but it bounced on the 6 yard box and bounced over the keeper who got a hand on it but couldnt do enough to keep it out! A real shame for the keeper who made some good saves. Rowe then suffered a hamstring injury before the final whistle but the SSAFC can look back on a cracking result and a great performance!
