The SSAFC picked up a very good victory in Buckinghamshire with a great display winning 2-0 against MK Dons supporters on what was a fine Saturday morning.
In the changed strip of navy blue shirts, the SSAFC started a bit shaky but dealt with the MK attack which had a bit of pace but the defensive line stood firm, the first chance fell for Bell after Tutton set up for the volley but it went high wide and not so handsome! Ridley then had a header go wide from a corner.
The SSAFC were looking good and started to take control with Poplett & McKechnie on the wings causing all kinds of problems from corners and it wasnt long until the SSAFC took the lead when Wishart on the right, smacked a wonderball 50 yards to the left which found Poplett who was through and he unleashed a left footed piledriver which was too hot for the keeper to handle to make it 1-0.
The SSAFC then started to dominate the play and didnt looked like a team who havent won on grass for well over a year! The SSAFC were then awarded a penalty when a corner whipped in by Bell was headed back by Pickett and Bell got to it first and tried to lift it over the oncoming player who handled it. Penalty! Bell stepped up and sent the keeper the wrong way and slotted it home to make it 2-0 and keep up Bell's good goalscoring form in recent weeks making it 3 in 3. Bell again had a opportunity but his volley went wide & Wishart hit a volley wide too as the SSAFC piled more pressure.
MK then started to give it a go but the SSAFC back line stood strong but it seemed they got a bit of luck when Court in goal spilled the ball from a cross and the MK winger shot at goal with Court rushing out to block. The ball hit an MK player who was in an offside position and the right call was made. The half time whistle went and the SSAFC looked good value for the lead.
The second half started with MK looking more to attack and started well but failing to test Court in goal. It was a scrappy start to the second half with both sides not creating much. The sad news of the day for the SSAFC was the departure of Jez Davies who suffered a injury to his knee ligaments but lucky it wasnt worse! John Carroll came back on to replace him.
The SSAFC soaked up the pressure of MK and tried to hit on the counter but nothing was happening up top. Court then made a good save from a shot from 25 yards. Steer then tested the keeper with a good 25 yard hit which nearly went in under the keeper but he got up to recover!
MK then had a golden chance but Court was alert off his line and made a very good save denying MK. He then made a great catch when the ball was looped up in the air and despite the challenge he stood tall and done well! Bradley Dixie then had an effort go wide before Pickett had the chance to finish it when great work on the right from McKechnie teed up Pickett and from 10 yards out, turned inside and hit a left footed effort onto the post and back out, McKechnie was offside from the resulting effort falling back to him.
The full time whistle went and the SSAFC picked up their deserved win and their first win on grass in an IFA fixture for well over a year!
