On what turned out to be quite a windy and wet day in Hertfordshire on Bank Holiday Monday, the SSAFC picked up a little bit of revenge against Cambridge from earlier this season with a convincing 10-3 win with the SSAFC using the strong wind in their favour in the first half.
It took less than a minute for the SSAFC to gain control and it was that man Teale after good play from Rowe on the edge of the box and he slide the ball into Teale's path and he slotted home. Cambridge fought back and hit the post and went wide, from the resulting goal kick, Bell launched it long and was flicked on by Deards into the path of Wedge who was onside and one on one with the keeper, Wedge sending the keeper the wrong way to make it 2-0.
Teale then got his second and the SSAFC 3rd goal in 12 minutes when great build up play found Wedge on the wing who cut inside and crossed to the far post to Gentleman who unselfishly passed the ball into Teale who smashed it home. A great team goal. The SSAFC looked rampant and took advantage of the windy conditions and it was Rowe who was on the scoresheet next when Chesworth bursted out from defence and went on a run before passing to Rowe who's low effort flew into the far bottom corner, a lovely strike to make it 4.
Abbey United then got a goal back when the ball went through the defence and the strikers first effort was saved by Bell but got to the rebound to make it 4-1. The SSAFC reacted positively and got a 5th goal when Teale got to the byline and found Wedge unmarked with an easy tap in for his second goal. Wedge should have got his hat-trick again when the SSAFC counter attacked and the ball was crossed in and somehow Wedge put it over!
The SSAFC then scored a quickfire double when Rowe scored directly from a free kick 40 yards away when his whipped in cross somehow was parried into the net by the Cambridge GK to make it 6 and that was followed 2 minutes later when Chesworth won the ball and sent in a floated cross onto the onrushing Gentleman who's passed it through the goalkeepers legs and into the net to make it 7-1 going into H/T.
The SSAFC had the wind against them in the second half but it was the SSAFC who scored again when a goalmouth scramble happened and the ball was diverted in via a Cambridge deflection to make it 8-1. It shortly was 9 when Carroll sent a ball from the left looking for Rowe but ended up into the path of Teale who smashed home to get his hat-trick! Cambridge started to use the wind but the SSAFC defence stood firm and Cambridge were restricted to long range efforts with one hitting the bar and others being comfortable for Bell in goal.
At the other end, Wedge had an effort go wide and Rowe hit the post with a header after a lovely ball in from Teale. Cambridge then got their second when their striker was allowed too much time on the edge of the box and his powerful effort evaded Bell and into the net. Cambridge then got a cracking third when from about 35 yards, their striker hit a volley which flew into the net leaving Bell with no chance! 9-3, a real goalfeast and the goalscoring didnt finish with Teale getting the last goal with good build up play and finished with a real swagger to make it 10-3 the final score.
