Sacriston headed into this potentially tricky away tie off the back of a nervy ending to their mid-week win; but there was to be no repeat of that today as Sacriston dominated the game and ran our comfortable 5-1 winners.
Playing on what is easily the biggest pitch we've been on this season Sacriston started excellently, playing some lovely passing football and making full use of the space with both full backs enjoying plenty of the ball down the flanks.
Sacriston took the lead on 10 minutes when some nice football down Segga's right led to Renwick receiving the ball just outside the box and crossing towards the far post for Andy White to nod home to put the sky blues 1-0 up.
Sacriston continued to put pressure on the opposition and Andy White had a couple of further opportunities to extend his and Sacriston's tally, the centre mid making some dangerous runs into the box and proving hard to pick up.
Sacriston should have extended their lead through Renwick mid-way through the half when Dean's through ball played him in, only for the centre forward to seemingly be caught in two minds of shooting or squaring the ball and his strike was straight at the keeper. Renwick was again played in one-on-one minutes later and bearing down on the keeper his heavy touch took the ball too far away from him and the ball ended up running out for a goal kick with Renwick flinging himself dramatically to the ground in desperation looking for a penalty.
Sacriston continued their impressive start to the game with Gav, Davey and Andy White dominating the midfield and they finally got their deserved second goal on 35 minutes when 'dangerous' dean attacked down the left and crossed to the back post for Winter who looped his header over the keeper and into the far corner from what looked an impossible angle.
Half time came with Segga firmly in control but the 2-0 score line did not reflect the excellent first half performance of the team.
The second half begun with Sacriston now facing the wind but this didn't affect their game and they continued to play their passing game and control the game; it was 3-0 shortly after half-time when Davey Wardle's pint-point through ball played in Renwick who made no mistake in placing the ball into the bottom left hand corner.
5 minutes later Sacriston made it 4-0 when Dean played another ball beyond the Ushaw Moor back four and Renwick latched onto it and smashed it into the bottom corner first time; the confidence had certainly returned to the deadly striker who is bidding to become the league's top scorer.
Segga then made a couple of changes with Adam Wilson coming on for Dean and Fozzy replacing Gav with Luke dropping into the makelele role in centre mid. Ushaw Moor got their first real chance of the game on 70 minutes when the ball over the top found the right striker who's finish was excellently saved my Davies; unfortunately the number 1 was caught in no man’s land from the resulting corner and the Ushaw Moor header which bounced off the bar and on to the line was inadvertently bundled over by the number 1 for an own goal.
Unlike Tuesday this goal did not affect Segga who stayed confident and could have scored more with Fozzy coming close on a number of occasions and Tom could have scored when his bender brother pulled it back for him, but the finish wasn't to match his clinical strikes of the first part of the season!
Renwick completed his hatrick shortly from the end latching onto Andy White's through ball and when his original strike was saved the number 10 had the desire to poke the ball into the empty net ahead of the defender trying to clear.
Man of the match goes to Andy White who put in a brilliant shift in centre midfield, playing the ball and looking a treat going forward with some intelligent runs into the opposition box.
This victory sealed promotion for Sacriston and moved them to the top of the table because of results elsewhere in the league. Three more big games to go for Sacriston starting with Houghton on Tuesday.
A note of congratulations to Tom who won the inaugural 'Thrupence' knock-out tournament in the club on the afternoon, a remarkable achievement. Also well done to Chalky who successfully completed the London Marathon today, not quite as prestigious as winning a thrupence tournament but a decent achievement never the less.
