The trip to Ferryhill was never going to be easy given that we struggled to win the recent cup tie between the two teams and only did so with a late strike.
The pitch at Ferryhill is unforgiving and must be the worst pitch in the Durham leagues, it suits Ferryhill’s game as the pitch is compact and testament to the home side they dominated the first forty five minutes and with better finishing could have been at least three goals up.
However Sacriston broke the deadlock when a fine ball through found David Winter who stroked the ball home, better followed when Luke Wilson fire home from inside the area and from this point I expected us to control the game. Unfortunately the home side pulled one back before half time and the sloppiness of the goal was disappointing.
We further extended our lead when Wilson’s free kick went straight through the keepers hands, and again we should have seen the game out.
We were then on the end of two poor decisions in my eyes and I don’t like criticising referees but the inconsistency of decisions was baffling. A soft free kick was headed home when we failed to track our markers then a ball which struck Liam Summers on the arm which was across his chest and blasted from three yards away from him gave a spot kick which was converted very well.
David Winter had two great chances to wrap up the points but hit the side netting. Onwards to the League cup quarter final against Waldridge next week.
