Sacriston came into the game against Ouston Cherry Tree on a good run of form and were looking forward to playing their football on the 3G surface over at Biddick.
The game started evenly and it was Ouston who had the first chance of the game when their attacker took it passed a couple of defenders before being denied by a great stop from Davies.
Soon after Ouston could and perhaps should have been down to 10 men when Winter was played in beyond the defence and was brought down by the last man but the referee failed to produce even a yellow card for the foul.
Ouston then made the breakthrough around 15 minutes into the game when the long ball over the top led to an Ouston header playing the striker in on goal and with the suspicion of off-side coming to nothing the striker buried the opportunity in the bottom corner for 1-0.
Sacriston then started to up their game and pulled level on 25 minutes when some good work down the left resulted in the crossed ball landing at the feet of Winter down the right who drove in on goal and rather than shooting (and probably missing) he squared the ball selflessly to his more clinical brother who smashed the ball into the roof of the net from the six yard box.
Tomaldinho then got his and Sacriston’s second around the 35 minute work linking up again with his brother who cut in from the left and played a perfectly weighted pass behind the defence which Tom ran on to and hit first time towards goal and the keeper couldn’t prevent the strike going in the net.
It was 3-1 shortly before half time when Renwick pulled the ball back towards Newby who finished calmly into the bottom corner evading the numerous defenders trying to get a last ditch block in.
Dan then came off injured almost exactly on half time following a nasty tackle on the ankle which could see the striker absent for a number of weeks which is a shame considering his excellent start at the club coupled with the already injured wee willy Wilson. Foz then replaced Dan upfront.
The second half came with Sacriston in command knowing the next goal would kill the game off. The defence were now dealing with the constant long balls very comfortably with Davies playing the sweeper keeper role well on a number of occasions to reduce any threat on goal.
Tom then had half a sniff at getting his first ever hat-trick on 55 minutes when Davey Winter went on a mazy run beating 4 or 5 defenders and in all honestly should have had a strike on goal himself but tried to be too clever and played a poor bobbly ball through to Tom who did as good as anyone could dinking intelligently over the keeper with his left peg only to see it agonisingly graze the woodwork and go over.
Segga then killed the game off on 65 minutes when the tireless Renwick chased down the keeper who’s miss-hit clearance landed at the feet of Winter 40 yards out and he smashed the ball first time on his right foot into the top corner for a goal which he has already gone from describing as ‘goal of the month’ to ‘goal of the season’ so by the time this report goes up it will probably a 70 yard volley from his own half which was goal of the decade.
Finch then came on for Gav in centre midfield and came close to getting his first of the campaign on 70 minutes when driving forward from the middle of the park he unleashed a fierce strike from 25 yards which came back off the post, very unlucky!
Sacriston then got their fifth of the game on 75 minutes when Ben’s under-hit corner was sliced at the near post and super sub Zlatan Ibrafozovic was on hand to nod home from a couple of yards out before wheeling away at speed screaming ‘Get in ya beauty!’. It’s good to see Foz can score the simple goals too as we are so used to only seeing him score world class goals such as chips and flicks.
Lee then replaced the engine room Benjani and Segga got their final goal of the match on 85 minutes when Gav (who came back on for Winter) played a pin point through ball to Sammy Renwick who took it in his stride and dinked over the keeper nicely with the outside of his boot for a deserved goal after a battling performance leading the line upfront.
The game was finished soon after and a special mention goes to a special little boy in Adam Wilson who had an excellent game at left back and is looking stronger every game he plays with the big strong boys; just a shame he is still absolutely woeful at snooker.
A second special mention goes to the mind-blowingly beautiful Chris Mordue who returned to the squad today and looked slick throughout the game, modelling the new tracksuits impeccably. Unfortunately Chris was out of action today as he broke a toe nail when getting his weekly pedicure at the spa the day before, but hopefully plenty of TLC will have Chrissy back in action next week where we face the Cricket Club in the first, and probably only local derby of the season.
I’d like to dedicate this victory to a poorly sole in the Ice Man who couldn’t be there today; despite being made of Ice from top to toe the poor fella has fallen victim of cold and spent his morning opening packs/wasting money on FIFA instead!
