Home league match played on 09 March 2014.
Kicked off at 10:30 AM

Sacriston came into this game on a good run of form and were full of confidence heading into a top of the table clash against The Britannia, knowing a win would see them leapfrog their rivals in the table.

Sacriston started strongly and within minutes took the lead; Winter picking the ball up on the right touchline and confidently dribbled inside past three or four (he'll probably say it was five or six) Britannia defenders and curling an excellent left foot shot into the far corner past the keeper, one of the goals of the season so far.

The positive start continued for Sacriston and they had their opponents on the backfoot throughout the opening periods of the game. It was Renwick who added to the lead 20 minutes into the first half, a throw from Dean found Renwicks feet and he then proceeded to show his pace and power to get round numerous defenders and drive into the box before firing an unstoppable shot past the opposition keeper, another excellent solo goal.

By this stage The Britannia were becoming frustrated and could consider themselves fortunate to get into half time with 11 men following a number of dangerous tackles in the first half, one of which led to Renwick having to come off injured and was replaced by Burnsy 10 minutes from the half.

Delighted with the first half performance Sacriston knew the job was still far from done and had to stay focused for another big 45 minutes. However Sacriston immediately adopted a more defensive approach to the second half and allowed The Britannia to begin applying some pressure to the defence, without really creating any major chances of note at this stage.

Despite the more defensive set up it was Sacriston who extended their lead approximately 10 minutes into the second half, Luke taking the ball in his stride excellently just past the half way line and utilised his pace to get down the left touchline and put a low cross in for Winter who smashed the ball into the bottom left hand corner to give Sacriston a healthy 3-0 lead.

Although 3-0 up it is probably fair to say that Sacriston continued to sit too deep in their own half and invited The Britannia to attack through the last half hour. The Britannia got back into the game on 60 minutes through a soft goal with Dean firstly mis-clearing on his right and the ball falling to their striker whos tame shot squeezed under Davies, not great defending on Sacristons part.

This goal give The Britannia the momentum to push on further and were now attacking with much more intent; their second goal came a matter of minutes later when a good volley from a Britannia midfielder 25 yards out found its way into the corner of the net.

Sacriston then replaced Andy White with Finch to try and add some protection infront of the back four but with 10 minutes to go The Britannia drew level, attacking down the left hand side the wingers drilled cross found the striker in space who produced a tidy first time finish into the bottom hand corner.

With the momentum now seemingly with The Britannia it was Sacriston who finally started to play some passing football again and scored a dramatic late winner five minutes from time; Winter receiving the ball just outside the box dribbled beyond The Britania defender and got to the byline before pulling back to the marauding Finch, who remained the calmest man on the pitch, taking a touch and firing powerfully into the roof of the net from inside the box, leading to jubilent celebrations and the big man being mobbed by his team-mates immediately after.

Sacriston held on throughout the last five minutes with Summers leading the defence well, although it was almost level again when The Britannia hit the inside of the post minutes from time, only for it to fall greatfully into the hands of Davies. A huge win for Sacriston who look to kick on and continue the winning streak with another tricky fixture against Ferryhill next week.
