Objectives today were:
1/to apply some of the learnings from the external coaching received on Thursday
2/ ensure all players got a similar game time.
On a frosty pitch for first 15 mins Panthers were the more composed
and the play was largely in Yateley final third. Yateley looked
dangerous on the break and they scored after latching onto some slow
play in defence, tackling and winning the foot race to score..second
15 mins defence was more secure but we lacked physicality in midfield
where Yateley were in control...there was some good wing play, but the
timing and angle of runs into box were not quite right..
Second half the general play and passing tended to be too long, with
Yateley backing off waiting to intercept the long passes. That is when
we need to note that space has opened up in front to play in. A
bizzare second goal for Yateley which seemed to go in straight from
the corner taker...Panthers had chances just before then including a
through ball to our striker that was onside, but unfortunately
linesman flagged for one of our players retreating back onside - such is the beauty of the offside rule..
EHE avoided two tackles that were meant to prevent the
player from progressing, continuing into the box where he cleverly
played a pass across to GW to tap in...
Panthers never really looked like equalising as the game fizzled out..
We didn't play particularly well today, but I thinks the boys enjoyed
the run out....
Thoughts
1/ Many times we were second to the ball, tending to wait for the ball
to come to us rather than attack it.
2/ One or two of the players were struggling with the physicality and
also pragmatic play of opposition. Long throws over the top of our
defenders that are not thinking enough about what could happen and we
had lapses of concentration.
3/ Too many times we jumped in to tackle when we needed to stay on our
feet and direct the attacker.
4/ players not played in their strongest positions.
motm was EHE for taking onboard some of the coaching from Thursday
and unselfish assist for the goal.
Thank you to GE for linesman duties today, a very busy role today..
