This was a high quality game of football played by two teams committed to keeping the ball. The pitch was very heavy having just had a match played on it before us and the boys were playing with a ball built by fred flintstone..!!
No Joab, so we needed to keep a core defense and defensive midfield in place and then rotate the more attacking focussed players.
Today's game was built on a really solid defensive unit that provided great support for the midfielders in maintaining possession. RE likewise had his best game of the season
Plenty of chances in first half for both teams but no goals ...captain JR covering tackle also saved a certain goal..EH settled down to play a really mature fullback role but took a nasty whack on the knee. Typically he was desperate to get back on the pitch..OK sensibly gave the quick striker a bit of space so that he could defend the kick and chase.
Second half we started to have more clearcut chances. RD long range effort beat the keeper but hit the underside bar, but we missed the rebound..the fleet keeper was having a blinder, with numerous saves, particularly when ON got in behind the defense..boca were dangerous on the counter and RE pulled off a great reaction save with the rebound some how going over the bar..maybe our luck was in...
Eventually a clever through ball from JC put ON through for a super finish . ON looked very dangerous in that role and got his reward...Soon after a bit of class from GW who flicked up and volleyed the ball into the top corner. As ever with Panthers we made it difficult and conceded a scrambled goal within a few seconds of fulltime.
EHE had a good game and against his old team, laying off and using the players around him.Similarly JW seems to really understand the need to keep possession and then attack where there is space.. Finally TH was motm due to his workrate and great link play...
