Going into this 1 against the league leaders it was a must win game for the club after last weeks dissapointing result. Continuing in our usually 4231 formation i was forced into 1 change from last week as jonni started is 2 game suspensions. We lined up nick in goal, squires scott ian and rob made up the bk 4, ryan and dukey was the holding 2, After 3 games out rougvie took his place bk in the starting 11 with brunyee and jke making up the midfield attacking 3 with mike leading the line. A good bench today of jimmy conlon and abass.
With the wind blowing across the field it was important to win the toss unfortunately AGAIN!! we didn't however whiston decided to take advantage of the wind 1st half.
We set off very quick and gave whiston no time to settle and was nt long b4 rougvie set off on one of his many runs today. We pinned whiston bk and from a corner kick good flick by parkey and donnolly pops up in space to smash the ball into the net given us a real boost especially against the conditions. We continued to dominate the ball and whiston was getting frustrated especially there manager with our slowing down tactics whats he want us to do speed it up whilst they had wind advantage but least our 4ft 5 goalie sorted him out when he came on to the pitch. Some good play by us and a key pass from brunyee to parkey split whiston open and parkey shook is defender off and ran on to neatly took the ball away in the bottom corner. Whiston ad a ten minute spell were they had a few bk to bk corners and a shot that it the bar. but we defending well as a team and kept them out without nick having to make a save. ht2-0
2nd half was a really proffessional performance defending our 2 goal lead we was happy to let whiston have the ball and play on the break we kept our shape well and every 1 was backing each other up. whiston huffed and puffed but never really created a decent chance in opening 15/20 mins, First forced change came when brunyee had to come off for family reasons so on come abass we kept the the same shape. 1 of the only times whiston got through and there was a claim for a penalty when nick come dashing out and collided with there striker which the ref deamed fare. Rougvie had a chance to make it 3-0 from a good move down the left ball comes across and drops kindly to him running onto it with and open goal 4 yards out he managers to it the post. Luckily it didnt cost us as the game finishing moment came with around 16 mins to go when the ball drops to parkey who sees the keeper off his line and from 38.5m lobs the keeper sublime finish and that killed any chances whiston had of any comeback. Just after the goal we made a double change off came jake for conlon and parkey made way for jimmy. By this time whiston had lost there heads a little and we was picking them off on counter at will with jimmy coming close with a lovely curling effort that was just wide of the post.
Overall very proud of every 1 today after 2 defeats it was a fitting way to come bk beating top of the league. Our shape workrate and all round play was magnificent today well done boys !!
