last 16 round in the george stainrod cup had us tied with div 1 side treeton, We was quite a few players missing today and with new new signing mikey reynolds not quite ready it left us with 12 outfield players and 2 keepers. Was a tough decision on which players to leave on the bench today as it as been all season for me so we lined Jamie in goal, a changed bk 4 of squires ryan scott and a first in is ttc career at left bk for kyle, the holding 2 was abass n tommo with the midfield attacking 3 of rougvie brunyee and warbo with parkey leading the line.
1st 15 mins of first half we didnt really get going and was struggling to deal with there rory delap throw-ins and we found ourselfs 1-0 down when there lad pops up with a free header in box 5 minutes later we then found ourself's 2-0 down from a similar type goal, Think this gave us the wake-up call we needed we got to grips with there long throws with jamie coming and dealing with the majority of them for rest of half as well as as some great defensive headers. We had a few good chances first half to pull 1 bk but wasnt to be. ht 0-2
2nd half we came out really up for it our tempo and passing was of the highest order, treeton just couldn't deal with us. Unfortunately a pulled hamstring to abass forced me into my first change of the game. jonni came on in his place and we changed formation to 4411 with brunyee and tom operating in centre mid and jonni supporting parkey uptop. It wasnt long after the change when we win a pen some good football saw jonni run into box and with his quick feet forced thier player into swiping his legs stonewall pen tucked away to bottom left corner by wilde. We kept our tempo and pressure up and treeton just couldn't handle us. The equaliser came from a great left footed strike from brunyee that just left there keeper stood and admiring it ripple the net 2-2 fully deserved. Unfortunatly we couldn't get the winner in normal time which i thought we really deserved to.
1st period of extra time it was quite stalemate and out of nowere treeton take the lead with a great strike from there lad giving jamie no chance. To my delight and your credit the heads didnt go and we stepped it up again with sum great football down the left and a great cross shot from jonni gave warbo a tap in at the back post to make it 3-3.
2nd period of extra time we was well on top our only danger from them was the long throws which we was still dealing really well with, we had a few chances to score from parkey who was tad unlucky and also tommo who agonisingly couldn't reach a cross at the back post. With 1 minute 30 seconds left we get a free kick just inside treeton half with squires stood over it can he deliver 1 last quality cross ? yes he can straight over top of treeton defence jonni ad nipped in behind and with a sublime first touch and his 2nd touch taken us into the quarter finals great match winning finish and celebrations 4-3.
Overall after a sloppy first 15 mins we battled well and the 2nd half and extra time you was all outstanding well done boys very proud of you all today!!!
