The game began at a blistering pace with both 'keepers pulling off some terrific saves throughout the first fifteen minutes. The game came to life in the 28th minute when a corner flick on was well put away by Charlie Salicki in a crowded box. On 34 minutes Sam Hogg, in goal for Horden, made a fine save, tipping the ball onto the bar to keep the slender lead. Four minutes later an excellent break when a clever run down the left caught the Masons defence flat footed allowing Craig Harbord a free pass to Robert Taylor to finish well at the 'keepers near post - Half time 0=2
The home side were soon level with Horden conceding on 50 and 56 minutes. James Connor was subbed for Martin Fowler and this time Salicki became the provider for Jack Pounder to head home on 68 minutes. The visitors extended their lead two minutes later when a fine free kick from Taylor was only parried and Salicki was first to react, slotting the ball home on his second effort. Christopher Wright was introduced for Michael Heckles but almost immediately, on 75 minutes, Horden conceded for 4-3. Again both teams had cause to fight for another goal. Fortunately it went in the Supporters favour. On 82 minutes another fine through ball from Harbord enabled Wright to beat the offside trap and round the 'keeper to slot home Horden's fifth. Two more fine saves by Hogg kept Horden in front in this great County Cup duel.
