Our great start to the season continues.... dispite a 2 week break from competitive action
Saturday saw a virtually unchanged side travel to Sarratt, who on paper were a very strong side winning Div 3 Last year and starting off wrell in Div 2 this season.
Be it Cobwebs, arrogance or respect we started slowly.. giving too much room and underperforming in most areas of the park. Our formation of 4 5 1 packed the midfield but we still seemed unable to cope with Sarratts Slick passing and moving. They seemed to be more awake than we were, and wanted it more maybe.
We found ourselves 2 0 down at half time through a smashing volley and some sloppy play. Sean gave his captains team talk and we switched our formation. Chasing the game is not always the best route but sometimes its what spurns you on, we managed to get a foothold in the game on 47 mins with Warren pulling one back after some great work from nick on the wing. But in true Shooters style 2 mins later saratt had got another - unmarked no challenge and they slipped in at the back door. 3 1 down - Upward challenge from here i felt.
I actually thought to myself keep it at 3 and get another and this will be close - I remember last season and the "Hitch 40 Yarder" Within 8 minutes that goal came a salmon like header from Louis now playing in midfield got us back to 2 3. Again another 8 mins later a thundering header at the back post from Matt G (Our Top scorer this season so far) got us level. Could we push on Could we go and win it - no one wanted the extra 30 mins.
Push on we did in the next 22 mins we battered them - down to 10 men sarratt could not cope with the 5 in midfield and 2 up top. Craig with another bullet header put is on the way 4 3 then a mazy run from Luke one of our 3 defenders (WHAT WERE YOU DOING UP THERE) put us 5 3 up and clear water.
Finally Sean won the ball from the defence and put matty reynolds through to slot home and make it 6 - a great outcome from what looked a tough awayday... we stride on into the second round with another tough game this week in the Junior Cup against 2nd Div outfit Harpenden.
More of the same from the second half performance please.. we have now tasted victory from the front and coming from behind... im not sure which i prefer.
Thanks for the effort boys and keep up the good work!!
