A BIG thanks from ME!!
As we say goodbye to 2011 we show how far we have come. We have now been together as a team for 5 months (21 weeks or 149 days).
Back on July 21st we had our first training session with half of us not knowing each others names let alone how we all play. A few arguments, wins, loses and battles later we are half way through the season.
We now have passion, commitment and a great team spirit, not to mention a great squad of lads who all are good enough to play at a higher standard. This showed on saturday as we pushed a Div 1 team all the way to the end even with an Upside down team.
Well we gathered for the last game of the season - what would taday bring, the sun was out again and damn it was cold.
The boss had a shock for them all turning the team on its head for the game. No pressure - youre all playing out of position.
How well we did. We started positively with Griff and conway up front, Griff looking to show Wazza how its done and Conway playing in his penultimate position in our team.
The midfield looked strong with the three reynolds brothers luke, matt and nick playing stright through the centre and rob playing behind them.
The defence looked strong after a lst min change Louis Miller made is shooters debut alongside Duff at right back warren next to him and creaser left back, the surprise was the way Hitch stood up and took the gloves with pride.
We pushed maple cross hard for the first 10 mins and created some good chances, Div 1 i was thinking we can do these here. A chance missed by griff would prove costly after some great holding play from the towering Mad dog conway.
On 25 mins after some good presure we let them in with a great volley from 30 yards hitch had no chance 1 0
We continued to push with Rob pushing into midfield to tighten it up with the ever sold Louis behind him. Nick and matt were then freed to do what they do best terrorise their defence eventually the ball fell to warren and PUNT a long ball... but hold on Griffs in on goal - the keeper to beat...... surely this is his time....... BANG riffled right footed into the bottom corner... 1 1 30 mins GET IN THERE GRIFDON
We got to half time all square and the thought we could do this here. The second half started worse than we expected 15 seconds from our kick off the ball is in our net 2 1 down - STILL ASLEEP. We could not imagine what was to come tho
15 Mins later we were 4 1 down and heads gone.. perhaps the div 1 team desereved it - nope we decided not to turn up second half or had we.
We picked our heads up and pressed for some pride. A few changes put warren and nick up front where we like them. Our second came only minutes later matt pinging a delightful ball onto louis head.. its IN 4 2
Within 5 mins it was all over 5 2 they had broke through again. Time to push on again. The introduction of Lee lifted the midfield replacement for griff. WELL DONE SON GREAT GAME
Then it was 6.... 6 - 2 5 mins to go
We pushed and Nick proved his MOM status with a delightful header in off the bar - the lino gave it and what a goal... 6 3
We saw belife again then and made another nick setting up warren for his first goal in 3.
All over 6 4. Not to be sniffed at boys. For 60 mins we outplayed them with a new look side - unfortunatey a game is 90 mins. Unlucky but we proved our commitment and restored alot of pride......
