Away in the league... unheard of at the shooters.... The fortress was left behind on a sunny blustery day... we were on an away day to South Oxhey... We lead the high life
After a slight detour via Matt NAV we finally arrived and even took a detour to the changng rooms.
a depleted but STILL very stong 12 players took the field knowing how hard the day would be.. the talk again was of a good start, take our chances and work them hard
BOOM they didnt know what hit them the first ten mins was all shooters with some great wide play between hease and creaser and hoody and probert, we probbed and had some chances.. the first taken after 10 mins by Sean after some great play from nick in the middle.
The kick off was released to our hard working strikers warren and nick both with good chances to extend our lead. On 15 mins they cracked again a great run from creaser released warren and the ball was gloriously laid on for matt to blast home 2 0 shooters GREAT START
Oxhey came back into the game and started to work our centre halfs strong work from Glen and Conway held our lead. A chance from oxhey which squeeed through Nobles hands - Get Griffs gloves off Nobes!
From the corner came oxheys first headed chance WIDE. Another pall through saw conway CLOSLY marking the striker and Bang over he goes leaving conway trudging PENALTY had been given - Oxhey stepped up and slotted it home despite a salmon like dive from Noble in Goal 2 1 21 mins gone.
We upped our game and sean and matt started again to work the midfield of oxhey. A ball sqirmed out wide to Probert from Sean, "Bambi" pranced down the wing and smashed in a cross........ no its a shot - top corner 3 1 back to 2 clear again - Great finish Steve
Oxey stepped up their game or did the shooters take the foot of the peddle. Another through ball saw hease chasing hard and clearing, the ball came through to the same striker - Bang conway goes through him like a Boeing 747 PEN AGAIN - yes 2 pens conway hence the 9.3 rating you lost .1 for each pen you donut - Leave him alone Warren.
3 2 as the 35th min pen went in the same CORNER noble not bothering to dive this time - di the first one hurt nobes.
We continue to push and be pushed this was turning into a great game Peep Peep and half time came.
We spoke of lifting our game keep the football going - we were in for a nervous 2nd half.
Again the first ten were so important as nick broke free and extended our lead again on 55 4 2 shooters.
A few of the injuries were showing and it was time to dig in and dig in we did until the 85th min when oxhey started to break through. A change pushed Creaser up front and Nick to Left mid to do some great defensive work. The whole 11 on the pitch battles and battled - we did concede a great finish from their number 10 on 87 mins but we were just too strong for a surprised oxhey team who had won their previous 6 games.
Great affort lads - so proud of you we are now playing as a team for each other and ourselves - more of the same next week lads when we play hoste to Maple croff in the Cup.
Its the last game of 2011 so will be a carnival atmosphere about the ground - be in for a big surprise with our xmas doo following on shortley after we progress to the 2nd round
