Saturday brought a well deserved 3 points with a great team battling performance. Defensively SOLID as a rock and with some very nice football taking us forward.
Global are no mugs and a well organised side with some nippy wingers and battling midfielders, we took our chances when we creatged them which makes a nice change.
Setting up with a back 3 which was forced as we only had 3 defenders avail, what a performance everything Global tried we swept up Duff with some crunching tackles and matt and luke winning every tackle and header - in the first half i only remember walker having to take goal kicks.
The midfield 5 of bavington davies (Jonny) lockley reynolds (Nick) and savage kept it nice and tight and played some nice football (Even if the middle was like a bog) we looked at our most dangerous when savage and reynolds got it wide and put the ball in the box - their pace too much for the global back line.
So to my surprise it was the old heave ho route 1 football that got our opener some great work pressuring their defence from lockley savage and davies (J) saw the ball broke on the right to Duff, with out any hesitation he smashed a sublime cross onto the on rushing Sanserverino up top who tapped it past the keeper into the bottom corner.... globals meraly pressure soaked up and our chane taken 1 0 shooters on the half hour mark.
The second followed shorty after with a well worked corner from nick saw martin tap home at the back post 2 0 at half time
Raise it 10 % stay tight and keep working for each other... Half time words from the boss and newly positioned captain bavington. Davies (Warren) had a quiet half except being cut in half by the back four of global on numerous occasions was asked to keep going and your chances will come
Global came out at us and played some great football after the break - they got the room in the middle of the park and started to pass - shooters tried to tighten up but allowed Palmer too much room and he turned Goddard sweetly and fired into the top corner - walker no chance 2 1 56 mins........ time to worry.... time to struggle
Not the shooters in true shooter style we got the ball down and started to press again. Again great work form the tiring midfield set nick away down the left adn the shot was blazed wide. Another chance fell to savage but the keeper saved well. Global kept coming and tried to get the equaliser....
..... again Duff and Savage workig well on the right.. duff found the ball and again smashed it clear falling to martin up top... would it be a hat trick... nope he found Davies (Warren) who cooly sloted into the bottom right of the goal 3 1 shooters... 70 mins.... all over
Or so we thought, again global lifted themselves and came back at us, the back three of shooters dropping deeper but keeping a great line OFFSIDE OFFSIDE OFFSIDE OFFSIDE was the story of the day... global wasting chances and shooters playing some good defensive work.
A few more chances were created in the last 10 mins but nothing to trouble either keeper... So the final whistle went and the PITCH groaned a huge sigh of reliefe.... i doubt there will be a game on that pitch next week..
