Bouncebackability !!! Passion !!! Commitment !!! Hurt !!!! Quarter Final Places !!!
Whatever it was, it certainly sparked the fuse this saturday. We showed what we were made of. We played as a Team and every one of you gave 150% and for that i thank you. What a differnce 7 Days make.
We gathered before the game knowing last week wasnt good enough and we had to show what we were worth this week, I could just feel something differnt in each and everyone of you in the warm up. Maybe ..... Just Maybe
Back in the changing rooms - everyone switched on, An inspiring team talk from the boss and Bavs and Conway. Glen then topping it all off. Go out and beat this lot give it your all dont come back in here after the game with the same feeling as last week!!
We set up for the kick off after Glen winning another toss and Choosing to play uphil and against the wind..... what a choice this would prove to be.
With the wind howling in our face we strggled to get out of our own half BUT we stayed composed we battled and we made a few chances.
With Danny up front along side warren we broke through and put a couple of shots wide. Sean and matt playing some neat passing moves with lee and bavs. Warren coming short and working well.
But with the wind the inevitable came on 25 mins a ball into our box was headed clear by the towering Louis but the rebound was headed like a rocket into the top corner. Time to stay in the game and see out the half still in touch.
NAH thats not how we play is it shooters. With a solid back four of Rob, Glen, Louis and Conway pushing forward at every opportunity it allowd Matt and Sean to work their magic in the middle. A free kick was given for a foul on Sean (one of many our Solid Sean was NAILED with during this game)
On 36 mins Danny and Conway worked a quick free kick that got us round the back but was cleared for a throw again conway to Danny and a driven cross with the outside of Conways trusty left foot went across the 6 yard line and lee just missed it but HEY whos that at the back post Matty Bang its in great team move 1 - 1
We kept playing our football and battled all over the park, Bavs and Lee on the flanks kept going forward, attacking, defending attaching defending What a half.
Half time came and how posh this week - we went back to the changing rooms for JUICE - How nice ha ha We just spoke about doing more of the same and now we had the wind and the hill - Just keep strong.
The second half started as the first had ended, some strong challanges from both sides, Bavs and Sean getting nailed again. But we all just kept getting up. They hated it. We had them rattled.
And the breakthrough came, on 50 mins lee won a towering header on the right and the defender knocked it past their keeper, Warren Van Persie gambling round the back slotting home from a tight angle - WITH HIS RIGHT FOOT Get in there 2 - 1 the team celebrated like a win.
But there was still 40 mins to go.
And what a 40 mins it was, Warren missing a chance on 60 and 65 mins would we rue these chances. We kept battling and they kept kicking - they couldnt cope with our strength. Sean and matt strong in midfield and the back 5 solid as a rock.
Every corner was won every free kick they had we won in the air. The ball was getting upto Warren and Danny and being held up the clock kept ticking.
They broke free down the right and bavo tracked the run and "took one for the team" he would have been in on goal. You guessed it we won the header.
Another corner came and ROB decided to go mental - i think one of the "Lovers" had tried to kiss him. After all this calmed down Sean got Nailed AGAIN. Yellow card for the good looking "Number 4"
Maybe it was time for some fresh legs to help out the boys. Danny came off after 75 well run mins replaced by Nick, Who was straight in, playing triangles with matt and sean and we were in again, the resulting corner came to nothing but more minutes gone.
Then Lee came off on 80 mins for Hooddy to shore up the midfield with tired legs everywhere.
Griff came out to collect another cross one of many. Rob into a crunching tackle and came out with the ball. Warren still running the line with 3 mins to go great to see.
The final whistle came and another 3 very well deserved points. I think i remember 3 shots from them and their goal, this shows how hard we battled and put last weeks demons to rest well and truly.
OH They were top yesterday - NOT TODAY
Its not often i get to mark you all as I have but you all deserved 10 out of 10. No one went missing, everyone played their part SOLID SOLID Performance.
Well done lads proud to be part of such a great spirited team!
Bring on Sarratt next week for a game that we know will be a massive game with the quarter final the week after.
