It’s a funny old game this sport, in what other sport can you win the game in the first half to lose it in the second and finally run out winners……

The first half was a bit of a readjustment for us, the pitch was a little sub-standard and we couldn’t really play our normal pass and move footy. We were clean and tidy though and that was too much for a Weir team that in my opinion is a relegated team. So looking at the result I think some expected a landslide…..A team fighting for something will never give up easily, Weir fought for their lives but we were still superior in most departments.

We created much more opportunities, with both Lee and Frosty up front. Shame we were unable to make the break through. That was until about the 20th minuet when too me it looked like the ball crossed the line by 3 yards to be ruled no goal…….. So perhaps then a few minuets later when the ref decided Lee B’s phantom goal was in, it was just rewards for our efforts. I’m not sure it crossed the line and nor were all the Weir team but a goal is a goal no matter how it comes. The first half continued with Mike, Dan and Kempy winning the battle and although the defence were turned a little we cleaned up with simplicity. I didn’t have much to pick up at half time, except the way we were trying to force the game.

Looking back then, it was another team performance one which proved we can win when we play bad as well as progressively. It wasn’t up their with out best games such as Borough in the cup, All claims in the league or Ensign at home but it did prove to me we have some fight as well as skill, were prepared to dig in and grind out results we need. If we put in 6 more of these performances and get the same result, I’m pretty sure you will look back on the season from a solid league position and your cup winners’ medals in hand. Football is a winner’s game come what may….We won, we now move on to Ensign at home next week.

All is not gravy though we let in a sloppy goal, a back post header played to a free man and a stranded keeper and we nearly gave away our points but for Big Wills manhood and bravery, so we rocked a little before a system and personnel change and a perfectly despatched and blatant penalty from Frosty, won us the game. So we need to improve to make wins more convincing. We all let the old adage get banded around, ‘we let ourselves play at their level’, NO excuses lads we need to find ways to not play at other teams level and give them ways into a game…….But I know its a work in progress.

The win takes us up another place in the league, so when we win next week against All Claims we will challenging for yet another place and then the Borough game will se us be playing for 5th or even possibly 4th. So as I said Saturday, what we have done up to now has give us a good start but were now at the business end and we need to continue to make the difference in games to make sure we look back at our year in the right light.
