With the club looking at a countdown towards our final date, I thought I’d see a committed and passionate performance to stake a claim for a place and involvement in the final. I wasn’t too disappointed; Shoebury came with a good team and solid form and were matched in every department. True they took the points but it was an act of smash and grab for them. We were the better team in my opinion we created more and the difference ended up being a blocked clearance which ran through to our goal.

If we count the chances alone which we made in open play we were the better team, we had Parker scoring then given a dubious off side decision, Ewan hitting the post, Lee B volleying just over their keeper making a great save from Harley and series upon series of set pieces. True we have to also mention that we did have Karl make two great saves one to his left when Shoebury broke though our rear guard and one to his right in the dying minuets, but in general it deserved to be our game.

Some thanks now to take note of starting like this; a great attitude was shown by most, so thank you. We all had a great work rate closing down and supporting each other, so thank you. After the game and in the pregame warm up I saw a committed and healthy attitude which I feel raised our game and commitment too. I feel we have been a little flat for the last few weeks with this in mind and with the lack of effort we have produced bad results. So this week we praised instead of moaning and we dug in instead of falling apart, so there was a big improvement in performance and it feels like we have turned a corner, again thanks.

After using 3 of our available 5 subs I can understand if a couple of people might be upset, you will get your chance to impress and stake a claim, this is guaranteed. I feel Both Ant and Harley came on and contributed well against Shoebury. Ant made the opponents left winger look slow at times and made an excellent tackle in the second half, Harley ran hard and made their keeper make a fine finger stretching save. This will give the management trouble picking a team for next week. Also with these types of performances it gives the starting eleven a problem to maintain their own form or feel the comfortable bite of the bench.

We all can now look forward to our next game Borough Rovers at Cupids with a firm change in everyone’s form and attitude. This should be enough to give us a good edge and capitalise again against a team that will be looking for blood. We know how they play and with the commitment from one and all we not only know we can beat them but we can gain a league placing for the pleasure of beating them.

Some of our players have started to return now and this will make competition for places harder, its some times an on the day decision by the management to decide who plays, keep this in mind we are a club in growth not decline, we lose form and feel hard done by like all other clubs but with the correct attitude and desire we will challenge long established clubs for Honours. We have started with the league cup this year, my own personal target and we have tried to maintain a challenge for 4th in the league. Decisions on our final league place are now out of our hands, the loss to Shoebury means we can’t catch them without help. This could be due to some less than great games in the last few weeks but we can finish healthily if we continue to pull together and not apart.
