I will not try to get carried away with Saturdays good result because it wouldn’t be fair on Borough Rovers, ………..who am I kidding we smashed them in the first half. We final played a little football, even though we needed to waste 30 minuets and go behind to a goal against play to really hit top gear. Six different scorers, six possible Man of the Match performances and that’s just me being short sighted as nearly everyone hit the floor running and responded well to the team shake up. We all needed to reverse one of our worst games of the season, when we played borough at home and we did.

The starting eleven worked their socks off, the subs came on to make an impact and to be fair not only were we better individually but we made a big statement towards the cup final squad, which will be named in 2 games time. It wasn’t all gravy though, the first goal was soft a back post header (35min), their second a lobbed header which was unchallenged and a good piece of individual skill (67). Enough about that lets look at our contributions.

It felt like a match lit the touch paper straight after Borough scored, it was the worst thing they could have done as within 8mins of them scoring we were 4-1 up. They let the field at half time battered and bruised. It started with Anthony’s fine run down the left and angled drive when started by Frosty (36), Then Luke took a long throw into the box and Kemp rose to get the telling touch (38), Parker then found a great cross towards the back stick for Neil to firmly connect and score (41), then a quick corner from Ant found parker who again floated a great cross for Big Billy to score his Debut goal (43). Each goal a corker, except Kempy’s obviously, as it was arguably an OG, also each goal was fully deserved from our team play / work and domination in the first half.

Like I said Saturdays Mom could easily of  been 6 people; the second half Karl made his value shown, already great in the first half coming off his line and commanding his area, he then frustrated our opponents to the maximum with fine saves in the 50th, 53rd and 55th minuets saving chance after chance. If one of those early shots found the net Borough may have got some confidence. None did and the team introduced Mike for Kempy. With that change he goals started to flow again. Mike hooked up with Luke who mugged off the opponents defence for the umpteenth time and slide in Parker who coolly rounded the keeper and slide in number 5.

We were back in control again after that Sam found some fight, perhaps too much and earned a yellow card, Borough found their wonder goal and yet we pushed again to provide me with a true contender for goal of the season. Sam got a great touch and turn on Borough’s midfield sprayed the ball out to the right wing where parker picked it up bent in the last of his four assists to find Mike’s deep run from midfield, Mike then rose and headed into the top right hand corner leaving Keeper rooted to the spot (75). Game done, Borough done…..Leigh town away to come.

So contenders for Mom were thick and fast, with Kemps fine 60 mins, Parkers creativity and  solo goal, Karls fine performance, Sam’s determination in midfield, Luke’s massive presence up front I also felt Billy’s desire was fantastic, Neil settled back in and showed great form, Ewan never gave up on any thing and Charlie was a rock at left back. If your names not on the list it’s because I have ran out of superlatives………Answers to my problem are to be sent on a postcard labled ‘How do I name a clear MOM’. A good performance like I said. Personally I feel it’s our second good performance in two weeks with only one being the right result. We need to maintain this form now for the next few weeks, raise our league position and prepare correctly for our deserved show piece final.
