Looking at today’s game our first in 7 weeks and without natural leaders such as Kemp or Neil A, missing good players such as Billy, Shane and Lee B or Steve Tierney I thought we might have a tough battle on our hands. Although an important game was lost today we were never deserved of the final result. Our problem except for the result started much earlier than the actual game with people unable to make the game and thus a subs bench that looked bare. I don’t pass any blame onto those unable to make today’s game but it has made me realise that we need more of a squad and more competition for places.

The squad will now be extended by signing another 3 or 4 players and people will be under greater pressure to perform. We have to be ready to win and ready to play before we turn up this was a game bigger than 90 minuets and bigger than our second half performances.

The pluses that came out of the game were greater than the minuses, I saw a team walk out to win and a team lose rather than a group of people. This team could now push on, or this team could now start to realise they work hard for each other and not try to criticise their own team mates. If this is true a corner has been turned and performances and results will follow. We wasn’t going to win the league this week but we didn’t help ourselves, a quick change in results v Ensign (home) next week will ease my pain.

I mentioned Pluses which is a good way to start the report; a team performance was had. Some players tried hard and having played 1 game in 7 weeks I wasn’t sure the level of commitment and fitness of most but most showed me both requirements are nearly good enough to push on. Other good things to come out of the match were the way we didn’t back down to a very good team, the way we led the team for 65 minuets. I can go on some of the personal performances were good, those that weren’t so hot at least ran their nuts off fore the cause.

So when we look back at this game and we see the result I think we need to look a bit deeper, we finally seem to of got the idea that we cross the line together, we turn up prepared to win and always looking to play. We just now need the commitment from everyone to be at the right level so we can look at the sort of bench we had at the very start of the season rather than the ones over the last 2 games. We also need to finish games we have lost more games in the last 25 minuets than we really should that is quiet damaging and needs to be fixed.

To mention a few names of merit this week John in goal was fantastic on his return, hands down Mom today. Parker, Dan H and Mike kept Southchurch’s creative midfield at bay for large periods and Sam and Ewan kept the strikers to very few opportunities. Our goal was a good with Frosty, Ant and Parker all connecting for John to score.
