After last week’s defeat the Warley boys faced a daunting task with a quarter final cup tie against Phoenix youth west who were top of division 2 and had only lost once this season. What was to follow was a signal of intent from Warley as they outclassed, out fought and completely overwhelmed Phoenix.
Phoenix started off the brighter and it was clear from the off that their threat came through the channels. As the game passed the 10 minute mark Warley started to play better, winning the midfield and dominating the possession. On 15 minutes Sam Stringer struck to open the scoring after Caldo had played him in. Phoenix Youth West 0 Warley Boro 1.
Warley continued to pressure the PYW players and Coach Jones made a tactical switch and replaced Sam D. moving Sam S. into a more central attacking role and brought on Junior to forage forward down the left. The reward was instant when on 27 minutes a Junior corner found Anil whose shot hit the back of the net and made the score Phoenix Youth West 0 Warley Boro 2. The goal gave Warley confidence and PYW resistance became less and when Junior skinned he’s defender on the left and passed to Sam S. to net the game was all but over as a contest. In the second half Warley continued to control the game and on 39 minutes they went further ahead as Dan W. Blasted home for close range after Key had done well to keep the ball in the box. On 49 minutes another Junior corner produced goal number six as Anil demonstrated fantastic accuracy to fire home Phoenix Youth West 1 Warley Boro 5 and the rout was complete on 57 minutes when yet another Junior corner was converted by hatrick hero Sam S. to net he’s 18th goal of the season and leave the final score Phoenix Youth West 1 Warley Boro 6.
What a response by the Warley boys to bounce back after the disappointment of last week’s defeat. They showed commitment, focus and ultimately the desire to win and comprehensively beat a team who will be promoted to division 1 next season. Well done lads!!
