Warley’s fine first half performance drifted into insignificance as Rangers forced their way back into a pulsating game at Smethwick Park to win 3-1.
The boys started the brighter and dominated the early exchanges with some superior football that had Manager Matt Jones state that ‘this was the best half of football he’d ever seen from any Warley side’ There dominance was rewarded in the 24th minute when Juniors right sided free kick forced a good save from the Rangers keeper only for Byron to pick up the loose ball and fire across the face of the goal where Dan W.’s shot hit the post only for the rebound fall to Sam S to fire home. Warley continued going to express themselves fluently as they drove on to increase their lead and dominated the possession in a one sided affair. The midfield was dominant, the defence tight and the attackers were hungry. Rangers failed to impress as they defended for most of the first half.
The second half was the absolute opposite of the first as Rangers began the brighter and dominated possession. They were rewarded in the 47th minute as the dangerous No 10 produced a run of the highest quality down the left hand side to beat three defenders and slot the ball home. Again Rangers pressed forward and another mazzy run inside the Warley 18 yrd box finished with the attacker on the fall and the penalty was duly despatched. Warley Boro 1 Mostyn Rangers 2 Warley pressed forward but Rangers were still running the midfield. They increased their lead further in the 62nd minute with a great shot form 14 yds., again by the dangerous No 10. Warley Boro 1 Mostyn Rangers 3 Warley were shell shocked but to their credit the lads began to work together and were unlucky not to score again as Jack B’s fine ball found Dan W. who’s fine shot found the back of the net only for the Mostyn linesman to rule it offside. There was also a shout for a penalty for handball but again the stand in ref favoured Rangers in he’s decision. Final score Warley Boro 1 Mostyn Rangers 3
The boys excelled with their first half performance and dominated the team that has been born from the remnants of Brierley Hagley Celtic. The passing and fluid movement was a joy to watch and the commitment from all the team was superb. Silly mistakes cost us but these will be worked on in training……..as long as players turn up.
