Today saw the visit of Netherton Colts North to City Road, the fixture earlier in the season produced a resounding victory for Warley but recent results from Netherton suggested that this could be a lot tighter contest. Those fears were soon diminished as Warley took control of the midfield and produced wave after wave of attacking football with Netherton struggling to get out of their own half, but despite the constant pressure mainly due to heavy conditions Warley could not create any clear cut chances until the 34th minute when Sam S fed Dan W on the left wing, he then beat his man cut in on goal and fired a low shot into the goal to make it 1-0. Immediately after that on 36 minutes Byron fed Sam S on the right, he cut inside beat a player and slid the ball under the keeper for his twentieth goal of the season 2-0 and half time.
Coach Jones gave his team talk saying “more of the same please” Sam D then duly obliged on 37 minutes after being fed in by a cross from Sam S to hit a rocket shot from a tight angle to make it 3-0.
On the 47th minute MOM Byron got on the score sheet after being fed in by Dan W, he hit a rasping shot that hit the underside of the bar and dropped down behind the line, full credit on sportsmanship to the Netherton linesman who brought to the refs attention after playing on that the ball had indeed crossed the line 4-0.
The best goal of the game came on 52 minutes when a throw in from Anil was flicked on by Dan W into the path of Byron who hit the perfect cross for Cal to tap in 5-0.
The final goal of the game came on 65 minutes when Sam D fed Dan W in on the right wing, he out muscled his marker cut in and hit a sweet left foot shot into the corner of the net for his seventeenth goal of the season and also to make the final score 6-0.
Another very good victory for the Warley boys in very heavy going conditions, lets keep it up and see if we can make the top four.
Thank you Mr Willets for an excellent match report.
