Warley slumped to their third successive defeat at the hands of a well organised and rampant Phoenix. It took the hosts barely 10 seconds from the kick off to go in front as the Warley back line was duly punished trying to play the ball out of defence. Phoenix took full advantage of their dominant procession with Colm the Warley keeper making a string of brilliant saves which surpassed he’s age. Phoenix went further in front in the 18th minute after another defensive error which left the lads with a mountain to climb. They did however rally and after a spell of pressure Sam pulled a goal back courtesy of a Dan assist and then just before half time Sam returned the favour for Dan to equalise after showing a great touch to beat the phoenix defender. Half Time: Phoenix Colts East 2 Warley Boro 2
The second half was dominated by Phoenix as Warley couldn’t find any of their rhythm and the lads were shocked to see a 40th minute Phoenix free kick fly into the net from 22 yards. Phoenix Colts East 3 Warley Boro 2. As the game continued Reece got injured and withdrew from the game, Kieran pulled a muscle leaving him at the heart of defence and barely able to walk and Phoenix piled on the pressure. In the face of adversity up stepped Colm Reilly AKA Tree. He made a mockery of he’s years to produce an outstanding display of goalkeeping prowess which left the coaches from both sides applauding he’s talent. Indeed the one double save from a free kick was so good that the Phoenix manager next to me was saying ‘what a great goal’ as the ball left he’s lads boot aimed at the top right hand corner. That was until the flying baggie somehow managed to save it with both hands and then smothered it at the feet of another Phoenix forward. UnbelievableTekkers! Phoenix went on to score another 2 goals and make the Final score Phoenix Colts East 5 Warley Boro 2
A message to the parents:
Matt and I sat down at the start of the season and mapped out our expectation for the coming season. Our aim was a top 4 finish and to win the cup. We are still on course for top 4 and due to play in the semi final of the cup. However the last 2 matches have seen some ugly scenes regarding some of the parents of Warley players. Please remember that these lads are growing up. They turn up, with your help, on their own accord and have dedicated a large part of their early life not just to Warley Boro but also to the game they love. It is easy for us as parents to fall into the trap that we are at a football match and therefore can criticise players and match officials. This should not be the case with Warley Boro. The players do their best and we have instilled into them that they Win, Lose and draw AS A TEAM. Our lads really enjoy their parents being there but they also need to know that YOU are supporting them whether their scoring for fun or having a nightmare performance. Encourage your boy to excel, do not criticise other players and officials, that is not the Warley way, above all remember these kids are learning all the time and at this age can get stressed about anything and everything. Please enjoy the rest of the season responsibly.
