Ventolin Inhalers fought back from two goals down only to concede a last minute goal to ex brighton player Kerry Mayo, as they went down 3-2 to inform Kezwaldos, in gale force conditions.
Ventolin were able to select the same five players who had come so close to beating 2nd in the league High n Mighty last week, only to again concede a last minute goal.
Ventolin began the game playing into the wind and were immediately under pressure from the lively Kezwaldos. Barton was forced into several early saves, as the Inhalers struggled to get the ball out of their own half.On the ocassional break the Inhalers were guilty of squandering what limited chances came their way.
The wind was making even the most simple passes more difficult and it was no surprise when Mayo, broke free on the left anf fired home from the edge of the box.
Ventolin were determined to stay tight, knowing they would have the wind advantage in the second period. Through a combination of interceptions, blocks from the whole team, and a few wayward shots from the usually lethal Kezwaldo strikers, it appeared Ventolin would go into the break only a goal behind.
As the half was drawing to a close, the Kewaldo keeper burst forward for a corner and unleashed an unstoppable drive into the roof of Barton's goal. HT 2-0
While it was a devastating blow Ventolin never know when they are beaten and this attitude was rewarded only moments into the second period, benefiting from a moment of great fortune, as Barton lofted the ball forward, bouncing over his opposite number with the wind carrying it into the empty net, despite the keepers last ditch dive.
This moment of fortune, inspired the Inhalers, who enjoyed their best period of the match, finally putting some passes together, with Plass and Dain enjoying more of the ball, bringing Archdeacon into the game, forcing the Kezwaldos defence into some last ditch tackles and blocks.
At the back Barton was as reliable as ever, as well as offering himself as an extra outfield player..perhaps due to his earlier goal? As the game flowed Ventolin sensed they might be able to get something from the game. From a seemingly innocuous throw in Dain spotted Ross's blindside run and found him easily, Ross took the ball in his stride before hammering home from the edge of the area.
2-2 and with the wind in their sails ventolin pressed forward, only for Kezweldos to come back strongly again, going close with a drive off the post.
Ventolin then had the chance to win the match, Ross found Dain in the clear, who then attempted to slot it past the keeper when archdeacon was unmarked in the box. A wonderful chance wasted and with seconds remaining Ventolin paid the price. After some hesitation in the Inhalers defence, Mayo was allowed to fire home past Barton to win the game. 3-2 and that was it. full time.
Kezwaldos celebrated, and Ventolin walked off disapointed to have come away with nothing after a hard fought display against quality opponents in difficult conditions.
In the last 2 weeks Ventolin have dropped 4 points in the last minute, hopefully they will not rue this come the end of the season!
Plass was disappointed with the teams play and felt not withstanding the conditions, they gave far too much respect to Mayo and allowed him way too much freedom.
Dain was pleased with the energy and effort, although felt everyone struggled to some degree tonight in the conditions and felt their football was below par.
Next weeks promises better things with a winnable game against Hammers FC!
