FAT, BALD & BEAT - VENTOLIN CLAIM CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE WITH FOUR GOAL BLAST AGAINST MAIN TITLE RIVALS....
Ventolin approached this match with a late change due to manager Tony Dain being unavailable due to a scouting mission in Ireland, although due to an early flight Dain was able to take his place on the bench and see the team continue their seasons good form. This also provided young striker Reece Amplicon with the opportunity to play in the fabled ventolin colors and show his skills to the full.
Ventolin started the match determined not to miss the opportunity of securing the title with a match left to play and maintain their 100% record. This commitment to the cause was evident in the early exchanges as ventolin were closing their opponents down and playing some smart football. Early chances were created and missed before PLASS played a ball down the line for KEELEY who beat two players before curling a right footed shot past the keepers out stretched hand and into the far corner of the net. This seemed to spur Fat on and they could have certainly equalised had it not been for several last ditch tackles and some good saves from KEELEY in goal.
As the half drew to a close the Ventolin fans could sense the title, although with only a single goal lead it would take further efforts in the 2nd period to ensure this was going to be a night to remember.
Ventolin started the 2nd half brightly and again created several good opportunities before a flowing move from one end of the pitch to the other resulted in DAIN putting MELLOR clear on goal, he made no mistake and made it 2-0 with a clinical finish.
Ventolin were now playing with the wind in their sails and FAT were forced to come forward to get a foothold back into the game. Although one or two chances were created KEELEY in the Ventolin goal was more than able to keep them at bay with a series of good saves. Ventolin were now stroking the ball around, keeping possession and generally wearing their opponents down with some quality football.
It was no surprise when Ventolin increased their lead following good work from Mellor, Dain and Keeley and it was certainly no surprise when the in form PLASS scored his 5th goal of the season cooly rounding the keeper and slotting home after a clever pass from REECE. As the clock ticked down Ventolin scored their fourth of the game, a good pass from keeper Keeley found PLASS who instigated another move which culminated in REECE knocking in from close range after a goal mouth scramble.
The remaining minutes saw Ventolin play keep ball, generally frustrating their opponents who had been soundly beaten. As the whistle sounded Ventolin celebrated their first title for several seasons and with it promotion back to the top tier of the football pyramid - The Monday Premiership.
Manager Tony Dain was thrilled with the teams performance and felt everyone contributed to another solid team performance. Although we know we will have much tougher games ahead, we are developing a hard to beat style with quality and effort all over the pitch. This should stand us in good stead for the premiership. Handing over the man of the match champagne to keeper Jake Keeley , who after a number of good performances continues to excel in the Ventolin goal and has deserved this award for a consistent season between the posts.
Ventolin will be looking to extend their unbeaten record with next weeks final game of the season against the leagues bottom team.
