Ventolin Inhalers concluded their season in disasterous fashion losing 5-3 to the inform Adam Spence FC and with it their seasons unbeaten run. In what was an exciting match Ventolin were punished for 5 minutes of crazy defending mid way through the second half, conceding two poor goals and with it the match. Although it must be said that Ventolin were the architects of their own demise - spurning at least half a dozen clear goal scoring opportunities. Dain was guilty of two glaring first half misses and another in the second half. In between this Archdeacon could have scored twice as well as Ranson, Plass and Gavin who all had clear chances of their own. Ventolin will certainly have to be more clinical if they are to prosper in next seasons premiership. The game started at quite a pace with both teams looking to get the ball down and play. Ventolin created the first opening when good work between Plass and Archdeacon resulted in Plass firing in a low angled crossfield pass to Dain, who took the ball on the run shooting low and early, before seeing his shot parried wide by the keeper. From the resulting corner Ventolin created the goal of the game.. Dain chipped a perfect corner over the melee of players around the near post for Plass to come onto and fire in a superb header past the keepers despairing dive. Another superb goal, and one of the reasons why ventolin are favorites for the Sky cameras - always exciting games and often stunning goals. Encouraged by scoring, Ventolin pressed forward again, launching a series of attacks, Plass again was instrumental, while Archdeacon was working hard finding space and creating opportunites. Ventolin missed a golden opportunity to make it 2-0 when dain came sliding onto a crossfield pass from archdeacon only to crash the ball over the bar with the goal beckoning. Moments later Adan Spence equalised, and with some good fortune, breaking well, the confident striker, side stepped plass, managing to get his shot off which took a slight deflection off plass and over the oncoming Barton who could only parry the ball backwards into the goal. Despite this setback Ventolin were continuing to have the better of the game, with dain making good use of the ball and Archdeacon and Ransom continuing to get into good positions, only to see their efforts either well saved or on on some occasions failing to hit to the target. Dain was again guilty of a shocking miss, when on the end of an excellent passing move involving Plass, Ransom and Archdeacon, Dain was somehow caught in two minds when all he had to do was stroke the ball straight into the empty net. As the half drew to a close Ventolin could reflect on a good half, although poor finishing meant that instead of being 4-1 up the scores were still level. The second half continued in the same vein with both sides playing attractive football. The welsh boys took the lead with an almost identical goal to their first one with the same striker again somehow managing to steer his shot past Plass and again over the hands of the on rushing Barton and into the net. Now Ventolin pushed forward, with Ransom finding Plass who saw his shot well saved, Archdeacon also went close with an angled drive. This pressure eventually paid off when Dain collected the ball inside the Adam Spence half, went past his man before sliding a pass through to Archdeacon who calmly fired the ball past the static keeper. At 2-2 the game was wide open with neither side looking like they could break clear of their opponents. That all changed in a 5 minute spell midway through the half, Ventolin were on the attack, which then broke down, leaving two Adam Spence players clear, they worked the ball well drawing keeper Barton before firing into the net. 3-2, Suddenly it was 4-2 as Gavin was caught in possession as the last man, and again Adam Spences' twin strikers worked the ball together to beat Barton for a fourth time. Ventolin now played with an even greater sense of urgency, and again Dain was unable to convert a low cross from plass, which while not easy on another day would have been scored. Archdeacon then blasted over from inside the box and Barton having left his goal went close with a low well struck drive from a corner. Ransom pulled a goal back after a through ball from Plass, his cross come shot, was spilled by the keeper into his own net in an almost comedic fashion. 4-3 and with only minutes to go Ventolin sensed the chance of an equaliser, only for Adam Spence to burst straight through from the kick off and make the score 5-3 and win this pulsating match. Ventolin tried in vain and could have had a fourth themselves when Dain floated a long pass over the last defender and into Plass's path, trying to sweep the ball home first time Plass this time sliced it wide. This was the last chance of the match, with both sides in good spirits having played such a good game of football. Ventolin manager Tony dain was philosophical after the game, some would say he needed to be after his hatrick of missed chances - "it was a shame we lost tonight, we had been building up a nice run of form this season and would have liked to continue this. We played well in many ways tonight, we just missed a number of chances and allowed ourselves to get caught out against what must be said was a good side, who also played a good game and in the end their more clinical finishing paid dividends." Joe Plass was pleased with the season overall and was just as happy to have his regular colleagues back playing again. "It will be tough in the premiership but if we can keep our core six together then i think we should be able to hold our own." Ventolin fans are waiting excitedly for the new seasons fixture list which is due out any time soon.
