Dyversity versus Stainton 500 FC – At Prisick base, Middlesbrough – Att 3
The game started off in bright sunshine with several players looking like they were wishing the sunbeds were out already, none more than Matty Devine who somehow injured his ankle with nobody around him in the warm up, but he was quickly assessed and deemed fit to start.
It took until 9 minutes for Stainton to take the lead, a nicely played pass in from the right by Matty Devine allowed Alex Brown to get off a fine strike from 30 yards which caught the caught the Dyversity goalkeeper of guard as it shot into the bottom right hand corner of the net. 1-0 Stainton.
On 23 minutes Stainton increased their lead with Alex Brown’s second goal of the game. A nice bit of work on the right by Liam Bedford led to a ball into the middle of the park for Paul Jenkins, who deftly laid the ball into the path of Brown, who drove the ball home from 18 yards 2-0 Stainton.
With the game looking likely to go the way of most Stainton games this season a third goal soon followed, Paul Jenkins hitting a descent shot from the edge of the 18 yard box which was taken away from the goalkeepers dive by the boot of Liam Bedford. 3-0 Stainton.
With half time looming Dyversity finally managed to get themselves on the scoresheet. A through ball from midfield had the Stainton defence flapping and when the Keeper Steven Kingston rushed out it left the forward to just chip the ball over and into an empty net. 3-1 Stainton.
After Half time Stainton looked to make amends for this lapse in concentration and got their fourth goal on 49 minutes. A good cross into the box from the left by Liam Bedford leaving Jenkins with just the keeper to beat from the right hand side of the 6 yard box. 4-1 Stainton.
However Dyversity refused to lie down and got a second goal a minute later, a ball in from the right leaving the Dyversity forward a clear sight of goal and a descent shot flew past Kingston from around the edge of the box. 4-2 Stainton.
On 55 minutes Stainton got back on track, with Alex Brown completing his hat-trick. A long ball down the left by Richie May set Brown away to run into the box and lash home a fierce effort. 5-2 Stainton.
A change on 65 minutes saw Denny Alderson replace Bedford up front.
3 minutes later Stainton increased their lead, with the Dyversity defnce playing the ball around their own box looking for a clearance an interception from Nathan Tidy allowed him to pass the ball inside the box to fellow midfielder Jenkins who placed his shot passed the goalkeeper from 6 yards out. 6-2 Stainton.
Again Dyversity got back up to capitalise on a loose ball this time putting home a chip from around 35 yards out, which despite the best efforts of Kingston he could not keep out and looked unlucky to have conceded any of the 3 goals. 6-3 Stainton.
Another change on 73 minutes saw Matty Devine replaced by Lewis Booth. The tactics looking spot on from the sideline as again 3 minutes after the change Stainton got another goal. After a free kick was quickly taken to Richie May, who’s cross from the left found Brown in the middle leaving him to fire the goal past the Dyversity keeper for his fourth of the game. 7-3 Stainton.
On 80 minutes Stainton grabbed the last goal of the game, which came from who else but Brown, getting his fifth of the game. A seemingly harmless throw was taken to May who placed a nice pass in from the left to the edge of the box for Nathan Tidy who quickly squared the ball to Brown who shot from close range. 8-3 Stainton.
Man of the match – Andrew Corfield.
Mentions for - Stuart Murphy, James Dee and Alex Brown, but a well rounded team performance that sets them up nicely for the huge 6 pointer next week.
