West Middlesbrough academy FC V Huntsman 500 FC
Despite only being February, this match between the bitter rivals of last season began in the sunshine and on a fast pitch.
Early in the game Huntsman showed their intent with Denny Alderson managing to get free down the left wing on a couple of occasions, but with no finish to match the play up to the final third of the pitch.
It was a result of 1 of these breaks which led to the first goal for Huntsman. Good work from Alderson down the left resulted in a shot which the West Boro keeper could only push wide leading to a corner from the right which was not cleared and fell to the feet of Matty McKenna, who deftly fired the ball home.
5 minutes later and a similar corner from the left this time led to the ball being headed back across the box, which again fell to man of the moment Matty McKenna to riffle home from around 16 yards.
This goal seemed to get to West Middlesbrough who began to commit several fouls, but allowing Huntsman to dominate the midfield and create chances, unfortunately none that led to goals.
After half time and a few changes for Huntsman, including Scotty Wright being replaced by Sean Jenney, West Middlesbrough came into the match a bit more in both a vocal and footballing sense, yet again the best chances fell to Huntsman.
Another change around 20 minutes into the half saw Casper McNally replace Neil McLoughlin. Five minutes later saw a good chance for Joe McKenna bring a good save from the West Middlesbrough goalkeeper. This saw another change for Huntsman with Matty Devine replacing Joe McKenna.
10 minutes later in the 85th minute another corner fell to Devine who fired the ball home to round off a good 3 – 0 win for Huntsman.
Man of the match – Matty McKenna – a good midfield display alongside his brother Joe.
Mentions for Joe McKenna, Stuart Murphy and Denny Alderson. However the team as a whole was very impressive for the win.
